2021 National Restaurant Association Show Cancelled
The NRA Show announced today the cancellation is caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and a state of Illinois order in effect until early June limiting gatherings to no more than 50 people. While this order could be modified prior to expiration, the McCormick Place does not anticipate changes to the state regulation that would allow an event of its size and scope to occur in May.

The next NRA Show will be held May 21 to 24, 2022.

NAFEM Renames its President's Award
NAFEM announced this month that it renamed the President’s Award in honor of former president and long-time volunteer Louise O’Sullivan, CFSP.

O’Sullivan, elected the first female president of the association in 1991, was the recipient of the inaugural award in her name. She received NAFEM’s highest honor, the William W. Carpenter Award, for 20+ years of service to the association and the industry in 2005.

The newly named Louise O’Sullivan Award of Excellence recognizes a non-elected NAFEM volunteer who has donated their time and expertise for the betterment of the Association. O'Sullivan is credited as the founder in 1987 of NAFEM’s Certified Foodservice Professional (CFSP) program, the equipment and supplies industry’s leading professional development certification. Today, the program boasts 1,000+ designees across all facets of the foodservice industry.
Compass Consulting November Industry Report
The January issue of the Compass Restaurant report is now available. The report highlights a dismal outlook for small businesses, noting that the Operator Optimism Index fell 5.5 points in January. The report blames the continued uncertainty of the Covid crisis, increased concerns over the new Administration's Executive Orders, and the lack of another economic relief package for the restaurant industry.
