Eric Norman, FCSI Board of Trustees Chair

I hope this issue of the Direct Connection finds all of you safe and healthy. The last time I wrote for the newsletter was at the end of March and so much has transpired since then. In late March we were just entering the pandemic. Many were transitioning from their main offices to working from home and adapting to the quarantine life.
While things are still very serious in regards to the pandemic, we are now starting to see signs of life returning to normal across the country. Employees are returning to offices. Businesses, including restaurants and bars, are opening back up. The world definitely has a different look and feel as all industries cope with restrictions and guidelines for re-opening, but there seems to be a light at the end of this global nightmare.
Throughout this whole ordeal, FCSI staff and leadership have been hard at work to keep members connected and the Society moving forward in a positive direction. To date, we have had eight FCSI Happy Hour webinars with average attendance between 65-75 people. It has been amazing to connect with everyone on these calls and share information, news updates and personal stories. As individuals and companies are now getting busier, we have decided to hold the webinars biweekly instead of every Wednesday. Check your inbox for details. We hope to still see you all there!
Another exciting development is the creation of the Public Relations Committee and the addition of Dustin McKissen as a contracted communications strategist for the Division. Dustin has a background in association management and communications and currently serves as a columnist and contributor to multiple media outlets. The PR Committee will be focusing on positioning FCSI and its members as the thought leaders in foodservice. There is no better time to make this push as so many establishments in all market segments could use the assistance of professional consultants with the knowledge and expertise that our members possess. For additional information on the committee or to find out how to share your articles, white papers, etc. please reach out to Wade, Dustin, or myself. Dustin can be reached at
[email protected].
Finally, as of right now the conference is still on as planned for late August. A survey will be going out to all members in the first week of June to get feedback for the comfort level of traveling and attending the event. Results will be studied and a final determination will be made as to how we move forward. I know for many this would be their first trip to an industry event in months. Above all, we want to ensure all participants feel safe and comfortable attending.
Whether we see you in Austin in August or at another event in the near future, we certainly are anxious to connect and look forward to seeing you soon!

We're really looking forward to seeing everyone in Austin!
Even though we are hopeful that we can continue with a full in-person conference we recognize that may not be easy for some of our members in light of the COVID-19 situation and potential travel concerns and restrictions.
We need your input to help determine the best format for
CAMP FCSI August 24-26 in Austin, Texas. Please participate in this brief survey to help guide us as we work to bring you a valuable, educational, and safe program.

CINI-LITTLE ANNOUNCES NEW CEO
|
Cini-Little International, Inc.’s board of directors announced the appointment of Kathleen Held CPSM to the position of CEO. Held began her career in the marketing department at Cini-Little in 1993. Over the years she has grown to be a key member of the leadership team and has led the business development and marketing efforts for the firm’s worldwide offices, most recently as chief marketing officer.
“I am excited that the board has embraced my ‘marketing-led’ approach and am both humbled and honored to have the opportunity to lead the firm into the next phase,” said Held.
“Kathleen’s passion for the industry, commitment to our clients, and ability to motivate people towards a goal has strengthened Cini-Little’s position in the global marketplace,” said Bill Eaton, chairman of the board. “She has revitalized our global brand, rejuvenated our corporate culture and given us a clear vision for the future. With her strong leadership experience and strategic thinking, Kathleen is the ideal candidate to assume the role of CEO."
Current CEO Richard Eisenbarth will continue with the firm as president and COO until he retires this fall, and will remain on the board of directors upon retirement. “This is the perfect time for Kathleen to move into the CEO role. She is a champion of the firm and has an innate connection with our team and our clients. I have been working closely with Kathleen for a number of years, as she transitions into her new role, and I can unequivocally say she goes the distance on everything she does. I am in full support of her moving into my position as I near retirement,” said Eisenbarth.

NAFEM announced this month that The NAFEM Show 2021 will move from February to August 26 – 28, 2021, at the Orange County Convention Center, Orlando.
The NAFEM board of directors considered the business issues arising from the COVID-19 pandemic, and evaluated information currently available against the time needed to host a successful show, ultimately deciding that conducting The NAFEM Show in February 2021 would not do justice to members, attendees, and NAFEM. More information is at
