Who Has Time for the Big (Patient Safety) Picture?
A lot of patient safety work focuses on "projects" instead of taking the broad view. It's important to build the internal structure to avoid working in a vacuum. Without placing your work into the broader context of your organization's other...

How to Network Like a Pro (Even If You're an Introvert)
I think of myself as an introvert whose work compelled me to become more extroverted. I used to feel tongue-tied around people I didn't know. Engaging with new people was daunting and took a lot of energy, but - as a clinical social worker - I...

PCI mortality rates poor indicators of hospital quality
"Perhaps when seeing an increased PCI-related mortality rate at a facility based on data several years in the past, more important questions for a patient to ask are, 'Are you aware of this, has anything been done to address this, and what is...

The American Heart Association is excited to announce the launch of a
public reporting website
that displays achievement measure performance data for nearly 600 Get With The Guidelines participating hospitals. Public reporting provides consumers with key information when reviewing their health care options and can aid in their provider selections. In addition to the consumer benefit, hospitals may receive credit from health plans and public reporting often fulfills hospital accreditation requirements. Websites like GWTG public reporting provide a level of transparency that patients are seeking when choosing care. This transparency is also a driver of quality improvement for hospitals.
- Hospitals were contacted during the month of September about voluntarily participating in publicly reporting their data. Those yet to opt-in will be contacted during an additional opt-in period in late November that runs through early December. Thereafter, opt-in will take place annually in the Spring and the website will be refreshed with data in late Spring.
- Attached is a document that provides additional information about this opportunity.
- Hospitals may choose to opt out at any time by emailing, AHA.QIContracts@heart.org
More about the site…
- Data are presented by each GWTG module
- Consumer friendly language highlights why public reporting is important, how it may be helpful to patients, and what significance these measures may have for their health.
- Search functionality for hospitals by entering a zip code or city/state, and selecting the program(s) of interest.
- Results display achievement measures for the program(s) selected
- The header includes an information icon providing a description of the measure as well as information on why the measure is important.
- Each measure displays the numerator and denominator, and the percent achieved.
- There is a minimum volume of 30 records annually, or attestation of 100% submission with a minimum of 6 patients per measure. If the criteria are not met, “Volume too low to report” is displayed.
- Data presented represent the previous year’s achievement performance.
We are pleased to share that US News & World Report is highlighting the public reporting website on their blog and has the potential to be included in a variety of national hospital rankings.
Thanks for your commitment to quality improvement within your hospitals and if your hospital is not already publicly reporting, be on the lookout in late November to participate in this exciting opportunity.

How Else Can Direct Difference, Inc. Help You?
|
|
Measuring quality is necessary for improving healthcare. We understand that when providers are overly consumed with measuring and reporting quality metrics, it is difficult to actually apply results and focus on actions that lead to real improvements.
Why not smart source all of your data abstraction needs so that it is done better, faster, more consistently, and at lower cost with less risk?
Did you know we provide abstraction services for core measures, non-core measures, registry, OPPE-FPPE, NHSN, peer review, pharmaceutical studies and others? If you have any data abstraction needs please contact us for more information. All you have to do is respond to this email to get started.
