Direct Support Professionals are essential
in the lives of people with disabilities
Your voice is needed at the Capitol for better DSP wages
Good morning.

The Best Life Alliance is asking everyone who cares about the future for people with disabilities to email or call their Minnesota legislators to keep the conversation going about the importance of better wages for the Direct Support Professionals who serve them.

They need to hear your story, and these messages delivered in your own words:

  1. Direct Support Professionals provide critical supports to individuals with disabilities day in and day out, supporting them to live and work in their preferred setting.
  2. Disability service providers were already in the midst of a workforce shortage crisis, and that crisis has been further compounded by a 7% cut to individuals’ service rates that began being implemented on a rolling basis in July of 2018.
  3. Direct Support Professional Wages are 17% behind other comparable occupations, and we must make an investment in these essential professionals during this legislative session.

Taking action is simple:

  1. Find out who represents you here
  2. In the Email Subject Line insert: Make Direct Support Professional Wages a priority in 2019
  3. Share your personal story including the messages above:

  • Talk about the work you do, or the services you or a loved one receive.
  • Discuss the impacts of staffing shortages or high turnover.
  • Tell your legislators that you are counting on them to take action this session to strengthen wages for Direct Support Professionals in the disability services sector.
