Director's Updates

Last week, all groups worked with award winning, American Roots musician, Ben Hunter, to learn about protest music.
Band
With about 90% of the student recordings completed, Mr. Gillespie is starting the compilation process for the Collage Concert in January. Stay tuned for a possible holiday musical surprise from all bands.
Choir
Choirs have definitely settled into a groove. This is very exciting because it took a while to get going. The students have been working very hard to get their virtual recordings done, and we've had a recording engineer come to class to make the end product even better.

Vocal Jazz is having fun using the additional capabilities of the Upbeat app. They are working on 6 different carols that will be recorded for the Rotary Club. Hearing them all together for the first time was amazing!
Orchestra
Director Beth Fortune is continuing to work with all groups on recording their pieces for the January collage concert.

The Chamber Orchestra is also working with Professor Hanson on a collaboration piece with the orchestra from Seattle Pacific University.

Small groups are working together on the new Upbeat software to play and record songs. The small ensemble learning groups are also working together to find new music (with a focus on under-represented composers) and develop a community service project.

The Ballard Fiddlers continue to meet virtually on Tuesday nights at 6:30pm with coach Matt Hopper all are welcome!
