Dear friends,
Grace and peace to you. As we embark on an eventful year ahead as a congregation, it is both an opportunity for each of us to grow, and to have a joyful hand in getting to help shape the future of our ministry together.
As a reminder, the first phase of our transition was in our discernment about how to best steward the physical, financial, and Human Resources with whom God has entrusted FCC Tacoma. We voted in 2025 as a congregation to sell the land and buildings on 6th and Orchard to purchasers with plans to redevelop the site into a cancer research center. As we approach the end of the feasibility period of the sale (early Spring), should all go to plan, the closing date of the sale of the property will be January 7, 2027.
For the next phase, our Board has commissioned a new transition team tasked with exploring and ultimately presenting options to the Board and the congregation for our new location after the closing date of the sale of our current property.
This new Transition Team is being led by Don Tripp (Chair) along with Pastor Doug, Vicky Carlson (on behalf of Trustees), Gary Bosley (Resources/Personnel), Tom Moore (Service/Outreach), Stormie Kerby, (Board Secretary), Jan Riley (Congregational Life), and Nate Dybevik (Director of Congregational Music).
The Team will share updates on their progress via written reports in our weekly newsletter. They will also host a Monthly Committee Update Q&A. These meetings will occur on the last Sunday of each month in the sanctuary immediately following worship, starting with the first one for this year, this Sunday the 25th.
Additionally, the Transition Team has attached a survey which everyone is strongly encouraged to complete. This survey is a deliberate effort to hear from everyone in our community in order to understand your hopes, concerns, and aspirations.
Physical copies of the survey will be available in the Narthex (lobby) at church. You may also click here to complete the survey online.
Please submit your survey by Sunday, February 8th.
Your participation is guiding us as we continue our process of discernment, seeking to both honor the diversity of voices within our congregation and to nourish a continued alignment in whatever next steps we take with the values and purpose we share.
With God, we can do it! We look forward to the future!
Rev. Doug Collins, Pastor
Don Tripp, Transition Team Chair
