Ministry Appreciation

Rev. Josh Patty

Regional Minister & President

October is Month of the Ministry, a wonderful opportunity to explicitly thank people who serve in Jesus' name. Please share personal notes and cards with pastors, musicians, elders, group leaders, teachers, and organizers in your congregation (and beyond if they are shaping your faith).

This month, I’ve been powerfully reminded of two congregations that have deeply influenced my ministry. Attending the installation of the new Regional Minister in Illinois/Wisconsin and Michigan brought me to United Christian Church of Country Club Hills, Illinois. Twenty years ago I served as a (very young) elder and youth minister, and that congregation sponsored me for and hosted my ordination.

One Sunday in October I preached at Eastgate Christian Church, Independence, Missouri, where I served as Senior Minister for almost 9 years before accepting the call as your Regional Minister.

It was wonderful to see friends in these congregations, after many years of only learning updates through social media. And I thought of many who have joined the cloud of witnesses since my time serving in these congregations.

These congregations have deeply shaped me and still positively guide many aspects of my ministry. Over the years, I have thanked God many times for countless influential people in my life. Sometimes I’ve told other people about these congregations and their leaders. At Eastgate, I thanked the congregation explicitly, sharing this: every week as I’m supporting ministry leaders in the Upper Midwest and beyond, I recognize a story, bit of advice, an approach, or an attitude that I learned from or in partnership with Eastgate.

To our ministry leaders, I invite you to remember some of those who have inspired and shaped the ways you serve in Jesus’ name. Thank God for them.  And perhaps you might find an opportunity to connect with one or two of them and share your thanks directly.
