Dear colleagues in ministry,

Hello! I’m Barbara Kwiatek, the diocesan staff discipleship program coordinator. My role is to help plan and coordinate programs and events that support discipleship across the diocese. I also coordinate and teach Safe Church training and serve as a resource for congregations with questions about safeguarding God’s people.

After coming from a Catholic background, I began exploring the Episcopal tradition and soon found a spiritual home that felt deeply meaningful to me. I was eventually received into The Episcopal Church.

After making the choice to leave my corporate career, I served as the parish administrator for 14 years at St. John’s, Wake Forest. It didn’t take long for me to realize that this was much more than a job; it was a ministry to which I felt called. I found so much purpose in the opportunities to serve others, whether it was welcoming someone through the doors, listening when someone needed to be heard, offering encouragement or a helping hand, or simply being present for people through both joyful and difficult moments. Through that work, I came to understand that ministry can happen in so many simple, everyday ways, and serving others is one of the ways I live out my love of God.

I’m grateful I now have the opportunity to continue that ministry by supporting congregations throughout the diocese. I look forward to getting to know you, hearing about your ministries and partnering with you in the work of discipleship.

Peace,

Barbara Kwiatek

An Opportunity for Youth in 9th-12th Grade to Participate in Convention

Do you know someone who is in 9th–12th grade and interested in being part of this year’s diocesan convention?

Youth have the opportunity to serve as a youth observer for their convocation and experience convention from the inside!

Youth observers will:

  • Arrive Thursday evening after school and stay through the conclusion of convention on Saturday afternoon.
  • Participate in all aspects of convention alongside the adult delegates.
  • Have an opportunity to share their perspectives with their churches.
  • Volunteer in the Prayground, an important part of the convention discipleship program.
  • Spend time together as a youth representation throughout the convention.
  • Be accompanied and supervised by the diocesan missioner for youth discipleship during the convention and at the hotel.

Questions? Please contact Lisa Aycock, missioner for youth discipleship.

This is a wonderful opportunity for young people to learn more about the diocese, meet other Episcopal youth from across North Carolina, and have a voice in the life of our church.
