Volume 6 | February 2018
Dear Colleagues,

During the fall and spring semesters, I’m often picking up coffee at the various grab-and-go spots around campus. It gives me a chance to wander through the crowds of the very same students I’ve admitted and welcomed to Adelphi over the years. (And it lets me get a few extra steps in for the day!)

Let me give you a glimpse of my favorite sights and sounds. I’m drawn to:
  • Bursts of laughter escaping the huddles of students in the Ruth S. Harley University Center
  • The sight of white earbuds hanging over Adelphi sweatshirts while friends catch up
  • Tables of students asking their classmates to sign up as a volunteer or head off on a fun excursion to nearby New York City
  • Sweaty teammates sitting down for a post-workout meal
  • The diversity of students from 43 states and 57 countries interacting on one campus

Everywhere I look, our students fill the couches, cluster in the dining halls and gather in the Underground Café (a special hangout spot on campus complete with Junior's Cheesecake, Fresko kosher sandwiches, Au Bon Pain, Starbucks coffee and tea, and more).

The campus comes alive from the energy of our students—especially as they connect socially and develop bonds with one another during their college journey.

There’s something to be said for the lessons learned outside of the classroom. And that’s why Adelphi prides itself on offering an exciting student life and residential program. Our community members know the campus never sleeps. The opportunities for involvement are endless—and our students would say they’re transformational.

Read on and immerse yourself in our community, just as our students do.

Best,
Kristen Capezza, M.B.A. '12

The Fun Spans Two Cities—Garden City to New York City
What's life like outside of our classrooms? Just ask our students! Last year, they participated in more than 340 weekend programs and 390 weekday programs! Classmates, roommates and lifelong friends took advantage of trips to nearby New York City, charity events and sports outings. Our students filled our University Center raising money for Relay for Life, signing up volunteers for the Autism Speaks Walk and prepping meals to deliver to nearby homeless shelters.

Especially popular are Adelphi's signature weekend events like our annual Midnight Madness, a student-favorite pep rally that marks the start of basketball season; Spirit Weekend, Adelphi's campuswide event for family, friends, alumni and counselors like you—save the date for next fall, October 12 to October 14, 2018; and Pantherfest, a Panther-spirit springtime carnival. In fact, that's Paws, our mascot, at the top of this letter!

Students like Tyler Coyoc (below) tell it best:
"When people ask me where I go [to college], I feel so proud to say I go to Adelphi, because here you're more than just a number. Here, you're a friend, you're a student, you're a leader, and that's what I enjoy about Adelphi so much."
