Fraud Alert – Don’t Become a Victim

The Perry Police Department has seen a noticeable uptick in fraud reports recently, many of which follow similar patterns designed to trick victims into sending money or giving up personal information.

Some of the more common scams reported include:

  • Traffic Citation Scams – You receive a message claiming you failed to pay a citation and now have a warrant.
  • Peach Pass Fraud – Scammers claim you used the Peach Pass lane without an active account or sufficient funds and now owe a fine.
  • Jury Duty Scams – You’re told you missed jury or grand jury duty and must pay a fine to avoid arrest—sometimes even using the names of local officers or deputies to appear legitimate.
  • Tech Support Pop-Ups – A message pops up on your computer claiming your system is hacked and urges you to call “Microsoft” or another tech company.
  • Old Medical Debt Scams – You receive a call about a medical bill from years ago, now “in collections,” with a one-time offer to settle for half if paid immediately.

Scammers often create a sense of urgency to pressure you into acting without thinking.

If you're part of a civic group, church, or business in Perry or South Houston County and would like to learn more about recognizing and avoiding fraud, we’re here to help. Perry PD’s Community Officer, Corporal Marcus Camps, is available to provide presentations tailored to your group.

To schedule a session, contact the Perry Police Department and ask for Cpl. Marcus Camps (478) 988-2804.
