Guardians of Groundwater: Securing Our Future

Most people turn on the tap without thinking about what makes that possible. Here's what's happening behind the scenes. 💧

Marina Coast Water District isn't just your water provider. As the designated Groundwater Sustainability Agency (GSA) for our region, MCWD is responsible for developing and implementing a Groundwater Sustainability Plan — a long-term roadmap to ensure our local basin is never overdrafted or degraded for future generations.

We don't work alone. MCWD coordinates closely with regional partners, including Seaside Watermaster, the Monterey Peninsula Water Management District (MPWMD), the Monterey County Water Resources Agency, (MCWRA), and the Salinas Valley Basin Groundwater Sustainability Agency (SVBGSA) to monitor and protect our shared groundwater resources across the region.

Marina Coast Water District is refitting and updating its desalination plant, shares ownership of a water recycling plant, and holds extensive groundwater rights, forming a secure portfolio of water supplies. If one falls short, in a drought or other emergency, another can back it up.

Your water is in good hands. 💧
