Discover New England News

NEW ENGLAND TOURISM UPDATE

After the federal government delayed releasing travel data after last August, the December data is now available, and we can look at the full year. Reports revealed that the year ended with a more consistent pattern compared to what we’ve seen earlier in the year. The arrivals by overseas visitors to New England held steady at about 2.8% behind 2024 arrivals and with spending at about 3% lower, which is still 4% greater than 2019 spending by overseas visitors in New England. New England continues to perform stronger compared to the national average of a decline of 5.7% (Source: Tourism Economics)

The year ended with Canadian arrivals to New England having the greatest negative impact of -26.1% below 2024. When compared to 2019, U.S. Department of Commerce data shows nationally, land crossings into the United States are down 34.1% while air travel is down 3.9%.

Conference - IPW, Discover New England Double Booth, Fort Lauderdale, FL, May 17 – 21, 2026

IPW is the biggest and most important international travel trade conference for the United States, hosted by the U.S. Travel Association and attended by more than 5,000 of the most qualified tour operators and journalists from over 70 countries.

If your business has a reach into more than one New England state, such as by having multiple properties or are an association that represents entities in more than one New England state, you may qualify to attend as a delegate at the upcoming IPW Convention within the Discover New England double booth. Booth delegates attend under the Discover New England badge and collaboratively take appointments with international tour operators and journalists to promote the region. In so doing, participants are asked to first encourage travel to New England in its entirety and help gather and record information for leads. As part of the overall appointment discussion, delegates may explain where they are from, who they represent and answer additional questions about their organization. They should, however, be sensitive that it is just one part of a broader regional discussion.

No experience is necessary as Discover New England is available to give an orientation of the market and the most effective tactics for a successful IPW. The cost to register as a delegate within the Discover New England booth is $3,500 (does not include travel expenses).
