Selling this fall? Starting strong matters even more this time of year.
In the fall, buyer activity typically starts to slow while the number of homes for sale climbs. That means fewer buyers may be looking at more options – so you want your house to stand out from day one.
Here’s the cheat sheet for how to make that happen.

| | | A Recipe for You: Creamy Chicken and Pumpkin Alfredo | | |
No, I promise it’s not a typo—this recipe really does combine a classic pasta sauce with a popular fall ingredient! The creamy blend makes for the type of comfort meal that’s perfectly suited for an autumn day.
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 pound skinless, boneless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 pound pasta of your choice
- 1 cup light cream
- 2 cups vegetable broth
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons butter
- ¾ cup pumpkin puree
- ½ cup Parmesan cheese, grated
- 1 teaspoon nutmeg
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- ¼ cup toasted hazelnuts, chopped
- Basil, for garnish
- Bacon crumbles, for garnish
Instructions:
- Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat, add chicken, and cook for 2-minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through. Add in the garlic, and sauté for another minute. Set chicken aside.
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil, and cook the pasta until al dente. Drain, and set aside.
- While the pasta is cooking, whisk together the light cream, vegetable broth, and flour. Set aside.
- In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium-heat. Pour the cream mixture into the pan, along with the pumpkin puree and Parmesan cheese. Bring it to a low simmer until it has slightly thickened. Remove it from the heat, add the nutmeg, and season to taste with the salt and pepper.
- Toss the pasta and chicken with the pumpkin alfredo sauce. Garnish and serve with the toasted hazelnuts, crumbled bacon, and chopped basil.

HAPPY OCTOBER TO YOU AND YOURS!
October is here—bringing crisp air, golden leaves, and that unmistakable feeling that autumn is in full swing.
Pumpkin patches seem to be everywhere this time of year. One of my favorites is Hawk's Pumpkin Patch at 2558 W Clemmonsville Rd in Winston-Salem. This family-run spot has been a fall staple for years, offering plenty of pumpkins, great photo ops, and fun for all ages. They are open for the 2026 season, and it’s well worth a visit.
This year, I opted for a ceramic Jack-O-Lantern with a flameless candle on a timer. It felt a little “lazy,” but I love that I’ll get to enjoy it year after year without carving cleanup.
We’ve enjoyed peak color along the Parkway so much last year, that we are going to make it happen again this year. We are going to enjoy the foliage and then an overnight in the new hotel in downtown Blowing Rock -- The Embers. We have planned a nice dinner at The Speckled Trout Restaurant!
Whether you’re road-tripping to the mountains, carving pumpkins with family, or simply cozying up with a blanket and a good book, October is the perfect month to slow down, savor the season, and soak up every bit of its charm.
What about you—do you have an October tradition? A favorite pumpkin patch, a haunted trail, or just a warm mug of cider on the porch? I’d love to hear how you’re celebrating this beautiful season!
