Greetings from ITPI

Dear ITP,

Welcome to our Spring newsletter! It's an ideal time to pay attention to transitions, the focus of this issue. If you live where brown twigs are now blossoming into vibrant blooms, you can’t miss nature’s Spring demonstration of transition.

In our personal lives, we seem to move from one transition to another. We experience changes in our bodies, our relationships, our careers, our home life. How we navigate through change is what we are exploring in this newsletter. As William Bridges explains in Transitions: Making Sense of Life’s Changes, “It is not those events, but rather the inner reorientation and self-redefinition that you have to go through in order to incorporate any of those changes into your life. Without a transition, a change is just a rearrangement of the furniture.”

ITP offers many tools for navigating life’s transitions.

Enjoy reading how members of our ITP community make their way through transition, including the opening article where ITP teacher Kim Kristenson-Lee describes the 3 stages of transition. Contributor ITP teacher Roger Marsh shares how ITP’s Core Practice Intentions can serve us well in times of change - small or large.

In planning this newsletter, we put out a call for practitioners to share their transition stories. Many of you stepped up to share, and we are grateful. I think you will find the stories relatable and inspiring.

May all your transitions be enlightening and strengthening and lead you to a new phase of growth and contentment in realizing your potential.

Blessings of peace, love and joy,

Pam Kramer

Intro to Transitions: What Are They? Why Are They Important?

Kim Kristenson-Lee, ITP Mastery teacher

As ITP practitioners, transformation is often on our minds. We tune in to, even set our intentions for change. With change comes transition, which might be defined as “how we respond to change.” ITPI Mastery Teacher Kim Kristenson-Lee offers a simplified explanation of the three stages of transition: the ending, messy middle (neutral zone) and beginning.

What One Test Can Do

Nathan Bolls, ITP group member

Over the course of many decades, ITP practitioner Nathan Bolls experienced many “new beginnings.” His reflections on how one thing led to another tell a fascinating story about transitions.

What to Do Now with the Next 50 Years?

Edith D. Johnston, PhD, ITPI member

Something ends. Something else begins. But in between, there is a Middle or Neutral Zone that can last days, weeks or years. Sometimes we feel disconnected from circumstances of our past as we reorient to “what’s next.” ITP practitioner Edith Johnston describes her journey in the Middle Zone after retirement.

Timing and Transition from a Body's Perspective

Carly Ko, Somatic Therapist

Life is full of transitions. Sometimes -- especially in the modern world -- we rush through them. ITP practitioner Carly Ko reflects on the importance of timing. “It’s up to us to give ourselves the resources and time to pass from ending to beginning with attention and care.”

ITP Core Practice Intentions: A Solid Place to Land and Stand

Roger Marsh, ITP Mastery teacher

ITP’s nine Core Practice Intentions form the structure of ITP and serve as the roadmap for the journey of transformation of body, mind, heart and soul. They provide constant encouragement to ground us in our daily life and help us stand strong through life’s transitions. ITPI Mastery Teacher Roger Marsh explains the connection between the Core Practice Intentions and navigating transitions.

ITP and My Life's Transitions

Bill Sharp, ITP practitioner

After 34 years of involvement in ITP, practitioner Bill Sharp reflects on his first experiences with George Leonard and Michael Murphy. Through the years, his ITP practice has accompanied many life transitions.

Author of My Own Life: From Lifequake to Renewal

Barbara Brown, ITP Mastery teacher

Have you ever felt led down a particular path by something greater than yourself, perhaps a spark of divinity deep within you? ITPI Mastery Teacher Barbara Brown tells her story about a guiding force that she credits for the rewarding educational work she does.

Focused Surrender

Rich Sigberman, ITP group member

ITP Practitioner Rich Sigberman reflects on transition in his life as an artist. The transition process takes focused surrender.

My Long and Winding Road

Autumn Wagner, ITP group member

Autumn Wagner is an ITP practitioner who thoughtfully chronicles the challenges and rewards of transitions throughout her life. The winding road of her life built resilience. She may have navigated change and transition with some angst, but there was always the secure belief that not all is ever lost. Through it all, she gained resilience.

LIVING YOUR PRACTICE – ITP RESOURCES

An Integral Approach for Navigating Transition: Taking the Hit as a Gift

Kim Kristenson-Lee, ITP Mastery teacher

ITP offers many helpful tools for navigating life’s transitions. ITPI Mastery Teacher Kim Kristenson-Lee talks about how George Leonard and his wisdom of Aikido practices can inspire our journey through transitions.

LET: Walking Through Eternity

Charlotte Hatch, ITP Mastery teacher

Leonard Energy Training (LET) offers a practice to stay present under all circumstances, including change and transition. ITPI Mastery Teacher Charlotte Hatch leads a “random walk” called Walking Through Eternity.

LET: Automatic Door Blend

Charlotte Hatch, ITP Mastery teacher

Sometimes a transition brings us face-to-face with opposing points of view or someone who just is “not present.” An LET practice called Automatic Door Blend uses energy to see issues from another person’s point of view.

Change Is Inevitable; So Is Resistence to Change!

George Leonard, ITP co-founder, author

As we navigate life’s transition, positive outcomes await. But sometimes, something holds us back. Listen to George Leonard explain our natural inclination to resist change.
