April Newsletter

Dear Parents/Caregivers:

We thank you for joining us at our third quarter academic celebration.  Many awards were given to many outstanding scholars because Jack Young Middle School scholars are respectful, responsible, and hardworking.  “Parents who are involved in their child's education are more likely to have children who succeed in school.” Anne Henderson

Parents in the Middle (PITM)

We thank our Parents in the Middle for planning with us every step of the way to support our staff and scholars.  For example, they plan to serve our educators during the Teacher Appreciation Week, May 5th-May 9th.  Please join this group of parent-leaders if you want to support our teachers and scholars.

Our teachers have prepared many fun activities to engage our scholars.  For example, our 6th-grade team took the scholars to bowling on Tuesday, April 22nd, and our 8th-grade team took the scholars to Tom Foolery’s on Thursday, April 24th.  Our teachers make learning fun for their scholars.

May is a very critical month for our scholars.  We thank you for talking to the scholars at home about the importance of academic engagement and behavioral expectations.

Cooking Club

Thank you to all the wonderful students and staff who made our cooking club a success this year! We finished up our last session on April 10th. Every year, we have many kids who apply for this club and it's wonderful to see the turnout. For our last 7th and 8th grade session, we made Cheesy Chicken Quesadillas. They were delicious! We will see everyone in the fall and be sure to remind your student to check out the club offerings for the 2025-2026 school year in September! Special shoutout to Mrs. Freeman from BHS for letting us borrow her space and a shoutout to Mrs. Kinnamon who was a wonderful helper this year!

3rd Quarter Academic Assembly

Jack Young Middle School proudly held its 3rd Quarter Awards Assembly, recognizing outstanding student achievements in attendance, i-Ready growth, the Principal’s Award, basketball, and overall academic excellence. We’re so proud of our young scholars—keep up the great work!

National History Day Trivia Night

On Friday, March 7th community members, staff, and families came out to support the JYMS National History Day club with our annual trivia fundraiser. The NHD Team competes in a History competition yearly and the funds go towards a field trip to the Wisconsin Historical Society Library and Archives in Madison each year.

Teams were ready, the competition was fierce, and Chamber Bucks as a prize were up for grabs. Do you know what order the presidents appear on Mount Rushmore? Well, our winners sure did! Thank you to the Parents in the Middle group for running the concessions stand and thank you to everyone who came out to support the club.

Join us next spring to see if you can measure up!

Volunteering at JYMS

CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS!

Volunteers play an integral role in enhancing the education of students in the Baraboo School District, and we appreciate the valuable services they provide. Because the safety and well-being of students, staff, and volunteers is of primary importance, the district conducts criminal background checks on all volunteers. A minimum of two days is needed to process applications once submitted. Once final approval is received, volunteers will need to have their driver's license with them when they arrive to volunteer so it can be scanned in the check-in process.

Thank you for offering your time and talents to the Baraboo School District, and feel free to contact the Human Resources Department if you have questions about this process.
