Animal adoption fees return
We have reinstated standard animal adoption fees, which range up to $100 depending on the animal type, age, and needs. These fees help encourage adoption, ensuring every pet is placed in its new home responsibly. To learn more, visit GwinnettAnimalWelfare.com.

Prep your pets for cold weather
If you’re shivering in a sweater, your pets are probably wishing for a fuzzy blanket, too — even more so if they’re short-haired, older, or tiny.
Keep them cozy and safe with a winter pet emergency kit for inclement weather. Make sure it includes extra food and water, medications and first-aid supplies, warm bedding or blankets, and favorite toys or enrichment items.

Protect your furry, feathery, and scaly friends from household hazards
Winter can bring hidden hazards for all types of pets. Be vigilant! A few simple precautions can make a lifesaving difference.
- Keep pets away from household items such as space heaters, candles, and electric blankets, which can cause burns or fires.
- Stash leftover holiday foods out of reach, including chocolate, alcohol, cooked bones, and anything containing xylitol.
- Secure and store antifreeze and other toxic chemicals away from pets; clean up spills immediately.
- Put away cords, decorations, or other items that can be chewed or swallowed by small pets like rodents or reptiles.

New year, new habits: Resolutions for pet owners
As we step into a fresh year, it’s the perfect moment for pet parents to set intentions that strengthen the bond with their furry companions. Consider these small, achievable goals for pets:
- Schedule regular brushing, nail trims, feather or scale care, and baths. Make it fun with a mini pet spa day.
- Rotate toys or set up mini adventure zones around the house.
- Teach a new trick, reinforce good behaviors, or try a simple obstacle course. Even snakes and reptiles can play target games!
- Add daily movement with walks, supervised free roam, climbing time, or play sessions.
- Create a pet vision board with photos, goals, and fun activities to inspire the whole family.

From shelter to sunshine: Graycie’s journey
Graycie, formerly known as Moxie, has blossomed into the beautiful mastiff she was born to be. When she arrived at our center, she weighed only 65 pounds. Now thriving at 105 pounds, this sweet girl has found her forever pack with an animal-loving family that includes three dogs and two cats. She plays gently with the little dogs, softly snuffles the cats, and wows everyone she meets!
Graycie enjoys sunbathing, romping in the grass, and unboxing her toy bin multiple times a day — all while keeping her toys in one spot for easy cleanup. She even likes baths and pedicures!
Her new adopters happily report that every moment with Graycie is pure joy. Full of warmth and wiggles, she is a fantastic guard dog, fiercely loyal, and never leaves their side.

Love in every bowl: Helping Gwinnett pets thrive
Our Pet Food Assistance Program, made possible entirely by the kindness of local donors, has grown into something extraordinary! Since launching in February 2025, the program has helped 582 animals through the distribution of 5,310.61 pounds of pet food to Gwinnett pet owners who simply needed a helping hand. That includes 773.30 pounds of food for 90 pets during the holiday season alone, from November through December.
Every donated bag is a reminder that even in challenging times, people show up for one another – and for the animals who mean everything to them. We are beyond grateful for the incredible support of our community, making an epic impact one full bowl at a time! Thank you!
