America's National Churchill Museum

Franklin Roosevelt, Winston Churchill, and Joseph Stalin celebrate Winston's 69th birthday with cake and champagne at the Tehran Conference in 1943 (CH.05.103)

Happy 150th Birthday, Sir Winston!

Today, November 30, marks the 150th anniversary of Winston Churchill's birth. He has been called the Greatest Briton and an American Patriot. Dwight Eisenhower recalled he heard Winston Churchill say, "I myself am an English-speaking union."

Perhaps United States President Harry S Truman said it best when he introduced Churchill before his 1946 address at Westminster College calling the statesman, "a world citizen."

Indeed, he was.

America's National Churchill Musuem is proud to promote and preserve Churchill's legacy, a legacy that continues to inform and inspire today's leaders and the leaders of tomorrow.

On this sesquicentennial anniversary, we recognize Churchill's audacity, resilience, and his unwavering commitment to the cause of freedom.

Above all, we thank you and ANCM's many friends for your continued and stalwart support.

Happy birthday, Sir Winston!

History of Westminster College by Churchill Fellow William Parrish

In 1964, Churchill Fellow Dr. William Parrish was a star in the history department at Westminster College.

In April of that year, on the occasion of the groundbreaking of the Winston Churchill Memorial and Library in the United States (now America's National Churchill Museum), Parrish was asked to give a lecture on the famous visit by Winston Churchill and Harry Truman to Westminster College, where Churchill gave his “Iron Curtain” Speech.

After Parrish’s recounting of the historic event, an older man approached the young professor with a broad smile on his face saying, “Young man, that’s exactly how it happened.”

It was Harry Truman.

Later, in 1971, Bill published a history of Westminster College, the small, Midwestern college with a global impact. He updated the book with a second edition in 2000 (history keeps happening, after all).

This year, Dr. Parrish has written Westminster College: An Informal History 1851-2021. This third edition brings Westminster’s extraordinary story current.

Few historians have the opportunity to study their subject for over six decades. Dr. Parrish is one of them. We invite you to pick up your own copy of an engaging history of what Truman famously called, “A wonderful school in my home state.”
