Nearly two years ago, I gave a presentation at the Kent County Economic Summit on change — economic disruption — and the need to be nimble, speedy, and flexible. This mindset is important to businesses of every size and industry, and includes policymakers who oversee the delivery of public services. Adaptation is key to survival.
It’s safe to say we live in a time of constant innovation and change. Advancements in technology occur daily and result in entirely new ways of doing business or improvements to current, inefficient models. Because of this, I'm going to add a new wrinkle to my weekly message. I will highlight private companies that are largely unheard of, but businesses who could become the future FAANG (Facebook, Amazon, Apple, Netflix and what was Google - now Alphabet)!
These are companies who are on the
CNBC Disruptor 50 list. They are private businesses "whose breakthroughs are influencing business and market competition at an accelerated pace." Interestingly, these companies are "at the epicenter of a world changing in previously unimaginable ways, turning ideas in cybersecurity, education, health IT, logistics/delivery, fintech, and agriculture into a new wave of billion-dollar businesses. More important this year: 37 have hired new employees since the pandemic began, and 19 have pivoted their products and launched new ones to meet the challenges of the pandemic."
