40-Hour General Civil Mediator Training
This 40-hour State Court Administrative Office (SCAO) approved training is designed to teach participants the skills necessary to act as mediators in facilitating the resolution of general civil disputes. This training is the first step for any individual who wishes to mediate privately or qualify for the circuit court roster approved list of mediators. Participants will receive a detailed mediation manual and a jump-drive containing reproducible mediation forms. By the end of this training participants will be able to:
- Identify the various conflict management styles and how they can be used in dealing with conflict.
- Interpret nonverbal communication effectively to understand the messages being conveyed.
- Listen effectively using critical active-listening skills.
- Define issues, positions, interests, and emotions, and explore why they are important in mediation.
- Ask important questions to clarify, identify issues and provide new insight or meaning.
- Manage the emotional climate in mediation and manage power imbalances and conditions.
- Set the tone, establish ground rules and guidelines for the mediation session.
- Build an agenda that identifies and prioritizes the issues to be mediated.
- Guide the parties through the collaborative problem-solving work of negotiation.
- Understand the mechanics of writing the settlement agreement and closure of the mediation process.

This training is the first step for any individual who wishes to mediate privately or qualify for the circuit court roster approved list of mediators. The training includes the SCAO required 8-hour Domestic Violence Screening Training. Participants will receive a detailed mediation manual and a jump-drive containing reproducible mediation forms. By the end of this training participants will be able to:
- Identify the various conflict management styles and how they can be used in dealing with conflict.
- Interpret nonverbal communication effectively to understand the messages being conveyed.
- Listen effectively using critical active-listening skills.

The Mediator's Toolbox: Working as a team in managing conflict and dispute resolution.
How mediators handle conflict and the resulting tension and stress it creates, can either negatively or positively impact the outcome of the mediation. This is a State Court Administrative Office (SCAO) approved 8-hour advanced mediation training training.
In this interactive training participants will learn why conflict happens and useful strategies for managing disagreements while helping parties avoid being disagreeable. Participants will explore strategies to improve the mediation process that can help achieve successful and satisfying mediation outcomes. In addition to exploring conflict and communication styles that contribute to ongoing misunderstandings, participants will learn practical skills that mediators can use to diffuse the level of emotion, acknowledge hurt feelings, and take steps toward building lasting agreements. By the end of this training participants will be able to:
- Understand conflict and communication styles.
- Understand how assumptions and judgments interfere with a mediator's ability to stay neutral.
- Demonstrate listening skills and how to de-escalate inflammatory language.
- Model and identify strategies that can enhance the mediation process.

8-Hour Domestic Violence Screening Training for Mediators
This 8-hour State Court Administrative Office (SCAO) approved training is designed to teach mediators how to screen divorce and custody cases for domestic violence to determine if mediation is appropriate. This training is a required supplemental training to the 40-Hour Domestic Relations Mediator Training. By the end of this training participants will be able to:
- Understand the nature and dynamics of domestic violence.
- Conduct the initial screening for domestic violence and on-going screening throughout the mediation sessions.
- Determine when it is appropriate to conduct mediation.
- Safely terminate the mediation session when issues of domestic violence surface in mediation.

A certificate of completion confirming attendance at the 4-hour domestic violence screening training is required for Domestic Mediators to verify that this training will count as an 8-Hour Advanced Mediator Training.

Basic Conflict Resolution Workshop
This highly interactive training is specifically designed to equip individuals with the necessary skills to communicate and manage conflict effectively. By the end of this workshop participants will be able to:

- Recognize their own personal communication style as well as those of others and how to adjust their style to effectively manage the conflict at hand.

Peers Making Peace: Facilitator Training
Peers Making Peace (PMP), a peer mediation program, is a Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration Model Program and an Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Promising Program. PMP trains identified students as neutral third parties to intervene and assist other students in the resolution and management of interpersonal disputes. By the end of this training participants will be able to:
- Empower students to resolve their own conflict by learning to implement and design the PMP Peer Mediation Program to meet student and school needs.
- Reduce discipline referrals, assaults, and expulsions by learning to coordinate peer mediations and program success at your school.
- Sustain program efforts by receiving the skills and training manual needed to train students to become peer mediators.

Restorative Practices: Building Classroom Connections
This highly interactive workshop equips school personnel with the necessary skills to facilitate the Restorative Practices Circle Process in their classrooms. A Restorative Practices Circle is not just a class meeting but a process by which people are brought together to both share and listen to the issues that impact them using the principals of restorative practices. By the end of this workshop participants will be able to:
- Establish a positive community in their classroom by learning how to use the circle process in preventative ways.
- Effectively address classroom behaviors by using the circle process to engage students in problem solving.
- Expand their classroom management tool belt by applying restorative justice principals.
- Improve learning by creating a supportive classroom environment through stimulating discussion.
