SJHS Chamber Orchestra receives accolades at the

National Orchestra Festival

Message from Mr. Lokey

The SJHS Chamber Orchestra had an outstanding performance at the National Orchestra Festival. According to a Michigan teacher who was in the audience, "It was beautifully polished, elegantly musical, and played with heart and passion in each work. Plus, it was so clear the students take pride in their work and their ensemble community."

Along with the performance, the students were able to watch other groups from around the country, visit with professors and musicians to talk about music careers, and hear the world-class Sphinx Virtuosi perform. One student commented, "As I talked with the Michigan professors, they seemed genuinely interested in me and my path in music. We discussed different music programs, and it helped me decide what I want to do in college."

UPTON MIDDLE SCHOOL ROBOTICS TEAM QUALIFIES FOR WORLDS

Joe Bots Maize, received fantastic news - they qualified for the World Competition in Houston! This is the first time in Joes history that a FIRST Tech Challenge team will be competing in the World Competition. The teams have worked hard to achieve this accomplishment.

VOLUNTEERS ARE A GIFT TO THE COMMUNITY

The SJPS Foundation is always looking for passionate people who love SJPS

and want to make a difference in the lives of students and teachers.

Meet Bonnie Tenbarge,

New SJPS Foundation Volunteer

I have lived in the St. Joseph area since 2000. I have been married to my husband for 23 years and we have two kids in the St. Joseph Public School system, Xander is a junior at the high school and Sydney is an 8th grader at Upton. Both play soccer for their respective schools and have been involved in the music programs as well (Xander was in the Orchestra and played viola and Sydney is in the band playing clarinet). I currently serve on the men's high school soccer booster as treasurer and have served in that capacity for two years. I also serve on the board of the St. Joseph Youth Sports Association as the community relations director.

I am always looking for ways to serve our community and give back for the support our family received through difficult times. In 2014, our daughter was diagnosed with Leukemia and underwent 2 years of chemo and treatments. During that time our community raised us up and supported us through an incredibly dark period. While actively searching for ways to pay forward the strength and kindness that we received, I happened to receive the Provisions newsletter in my e-mail. As I started to learn more about the SJPS Foundation and their mission to enrich the education of students in the St. Joseph Public School district, it seemed like a natural fit. I am enjoying exploring the different committees and their individual missions for the Foundation and finding a place where I may serve the school system where my children are growing and the community where we live.

We can offer no greater gift to our children than to dedicate ourselves to educational excellence.
