August denotes the lazy days of summer are coming to an end. It also means the Yolo County Fair will be open August 17-21, 2015. I encourage everyone to make a trip to Woodland and partake in all the f fun, food, games and music.
I am also extremely pleased to announce that I have a new Assistant Deputy Director, Ms. Carol Strunk. Carol is a long-time resident of West Sacramento. She has previously served as an Office Manager for a law office and spent countless hours volunteering for her children's school. She will serve as a great addition to the District 1 office. Feel free to drop by the office at 500 Jefferson Blvd., Bldg. A, Suite C to welcome her. She can be reached at (916) 375-6441 or via email at
I have been coordinating with the Delta Protection Commission to participate in the annual California Coastal Clean Up-Day on the West Sacramento Riverwalk in the Bridge District in September. We need many volunteers to make this event a success. More details on how you can participate are noted below.
In June I accepted the invitation from Tim O'Halloran, General Manager, Yolo County Flood Control and Water Conservation District
to participate in an awesome birds eye view of western Yolo and our water sources by way of helicopter. The depth and grandeur of our farmland and waterways is breathtaking and he provided a fascinating tour and relevant history of Yolo County. Most recently I toured the Sacramento River with Yolo County Sheriff Prieto and Sgt. Sam Machado to view the problems they face with abandoned and sunken vessels. Addressing this issue is critical as we work toward preserving the delta waterways.
August 16th, I had the pleasure of answering the phones on Good Day Sacramento on behalf of the American Red Cross Telethon seeking donations for disaster relief to aid those affected by the fires nearby and throughout the state. Later that day I testified before the State Assembly Governmental Organizational Committee in support of the State of California Tribal Gaming Compact with the Yoche Dehe Wintun Nation. The video of this hearing can be found at this link - View Here.
I am reminded every day of the challenges that face Yolo County. These reminders inspire me to meet these challenges head on and works toward global solutions.
