Spring is in the air. While it's always enjoyable to witness the rebirth of our plants, flowers, grass and trees, the fact remains our Delta and wetlands could use more water. Despite the light landing of El Ni
ño in our region, it is gratifying to see the rise of the rivers and full dams from previous years. During the past two months, I've had the chance to participate in an array of activities. At the February 23rd Board of Supervisors meeting, we recognized several county employees with service awards for their tenure with the County of Yolo. It was an honor to recognize dedicated county employees who have invested so many years providing their talents to our county. At the State Capitol, I provided testimony on behalf of the California State Association of Counties to the State Senate Committee on Budget and Fiscal Review which focused on Homelessness. Given our efforts to initiate the first Bridge to Housing in West Sacramento, this concept of provision of services to the medically vulnerable homeless is being replicated in other portions of Yolo County with grant funds from the Partnership Health Plan of California. I also had the unique opportunity to tour the county landfill. It's amazing to see how the staff of the Integrated Waste Management has mastered the art of waste disposal amid an array of state laws and regulations. We all can look forward to the emergence of increasing our organics waste processing capacity.
