From the Desk of the District Director
We are one month into our continued journey together. I’m still asking each District 106 club to be busy planning four (4) open house meetings between now and 30 June 2024.
Do you need help securing an accomplished speaker, evaluator, or other role holder? Reach out to Edward Chavan (Edwardchavan@peozzle.com), Speakers Bureau Chair, to find someone willing to speak. Reach out to me, Katy, or Matt if you need an evaluator or other role holder. We are committed to making this process smooth and easy for you; you just need to put guests into the chairs (real or virtual)! We are a warm, welcoming, and supportive Toastmasters District. Let’s keep adding new members!
Your District leaders – me, Katy Hursh, and Matthew Villella – have put together a well thought out District 106 success plan. That plan has been shared with the District 106 Executive Committee, edited, and will soon be ready to submit to Toastmasters International. Once in final and approved form, it will be made available on the D106tm.org website. It is our plan as leaders for your district and belongs to all of us. Fundamentally, it shows specific steps we plan to take to assure that all District 106 Toastmasters are achieving their personal and professional goals.

Speaking of leadership, we continue to be short 7 Area Directors. Does your club have an immediate past club President interested in pursuing Distinguished Toastmaster? Service as Area Director supports that process. I found Area Director to be the most enjoyable leadership role I have had in Toastmasters. Help me surface additional leaders, please. Our Toastmasters of distinction deserve to have competent leadership rather than vacant leadership positions. Anyone appointed to the Area
Director on or before 31 August and completing their term will receive credit for a year of Area Director service. Let’s find a couple extra who can help out as assistant ADs!

From the Desk of the Club Growth Director
Toastmasters of D106,
We are entering our second month of the Toastmaster year. I understand that most of us are enjoying the very limited summer we have. However, I hope you share a small portion of your time with Toastmasters. This year, it’s my goal to help clubs become strong and flourish in whatever capacity that looks like for your club. If your club is currently not meeting due to summer conflicts, now is the time to jump into a meeting for another club. Bringing a speech, doing table topics, or just being there will go along way to help clubs that are meeting during the summer. If you need help finding a club that suits your schedule, feel free to reach out to me.
We have some new clubs we are trying build. If you are curious about any of the listed opportunities, please reach out. We are looking at starting a:
- Millennial/Gen Z professionals club (young at heart also welcome)
- Rotary/Toastmaster club
- Comedy club
Do you have an idea for a club? Let’s work on it together. I wish you a wonderful August and encourage you to attend a different club this month. August=Amazing Toastmasters!

Fellow District 106 Toastmasters and VP- PR Officers!
Let's talk Toastmasters brand and brand awareness. Every Toastmaster is responsible for keeping our brand alive. It starts with you! Let's not rely on the VP of PR to do our work. Sharing what Toastmasters can do for someone is the job of many.
As a member of a Toastmasters club, every communication you might have with a visitor should consider the Toastmasters brand. Ask if you can help, join club and D106 social channels, post, share, and the like! Be vocal and tell your story. I am sure you will feel great!
As the VP of PR for your club, you are the voice of your club, and you can share Toastmasters with the world around you. Opportunities are endless in the world we are in. Think social media, websites, and brand manual. Let’s empower our members by providing valuable information, learning and growing with Toastmasters. I highly encourage each of you to share successes through social channels and inspire others to achieve success and growth.
If your club does not have a social media presence, please start with one channel. Use Facebook as your starting point; most people are on it.
Regarding the website, focus on its landing page and contact information for now. Finally, you are the brand police for your club; use the Brand Manual as your guide.

From the Desk of the Club Quality Chair
Hello District 106 Toastmasters,
The second month of the Toastmaster season is already here. Are you planning to complete your DTM this year?
You know that being a new club mentor and a sponsor fulfills two of the DTM requirements. If you are an Area Director or a Division Director, creating a new club in your territory goes a long way to making you Distinguished by Toastmasters standards! To successfully serve as a new club mentor or sponsor, you will need to work at least six months with the club to get it off the ground and ensure that it will be able to flourish after it charters. The many duties will include guiding the new club executive through the Club Success Plan to make the club distinguished as per the Distinguished Club program. Also, you could guide the club members through the many meeting roles with A Toastmaster Wears Many Hats, and finally help club members navigate Pathways. You could also help them with the Toastmasters website that every club gets. You will be the guru for that club; you will leave your stamp and go down in Toastmaster history as one of its founders. Now is the time to sign up as a new club sponsor or mentor to complete these DTM requirements before June 30, 2024.
Contact me at yprevost123@gmail.com to get on the list and we will "train" you to be the best mentor or sponsor possible.
Yves Prévost, DTM, PDD
