A Passion for Excellence Video Series
Each month during the school year, the District released a new video in conjunction with the Passion for Excellence video series, which aims to highlight and tell the story of teachers and staff in District 113.

Northern Illinois Regional Art Exhibition
Six students from Deerfield High School and five students from Highland Park High School had their artwork featured at the Northern Regional Exhibition, which is one of the state's largest and most influential student art exhibitions that celebrates artistic achievement and provides talented young artists with opportunities to showcase their artwork and compete at the state level.

Kristina Cvejic, sophomore at Deerfield High School, earned Honorable Mention in pottery, Ella Gand Seidita, senior at Deerfield High School, earned Silver in time arts, Ariel Glassberg, senior at Highland Park High School, earned Best in Show in pottery, and Laura Rodriguez-Rios, junior at Highland Park High School earned Honorable Mention in painting.

AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award
Deerfield High School has earned the 2022 College Board AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award for achieving high female representation in AP Computer Science Principles (CSP). Schools honored with the AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award have expanded young women's access in AP computer science courses. Deerfield High School is one of 832 schools from across the country to be recognized in the category of AP CSP.

In order to earn this award, schools must have either 50 percent or higher female exam taker representation in one or both AP computer science courses, or a percentage of female computer science exam takers that meets or exceeds the school’s female population.
HPHS Charity Drive Raises over $100,000
Highland Park High School’s annual Charity Drive helps raise funds and awareness for a nonprofit organization selected by students and staff. This year, Highland Park High School students and staff selected the Rolfe Pancreatic Cancer Foundation as the beneficiary for Charity Drive 2023, which aims to provide personal support to those affected by pancreatic cancer through tailored resources, connections and education, and funding for early detection research.

Thank you to the Highland Park High School students, staff, parents and community for all their hard work in raising $105,260.52 for the Rolfe Pancreatic Cancer Foundation.

Deerfield High School's School Chest takes place in the fall semester. In fall 2022, School Chest raised funds for the Dragonfly Foundation. According to the timeline, a review of proposals for the fall 2023 are underway.
Ten seniors were recognized as Scholars by College Bound Opportunities (CBO), which aims to motivate and prepare under-served students to attend and graduate from college. This year's graduating CBO Scholars are:

Staff Highlights
Below are some of the honors and accomplishments our staff have earned during the spring semester.

  • Deerfield High School Principal Kathryn Anderson was named Lake County High School Principal of the Year by the Illinois Principals Association (IPA). The IPA annually recognizes outstanding high school leaders who have succeeded in providing high quality learning opportunities for students.

  • Nicole Keith, girls basketball coach at Deerfield High School, was named Coach of the Year by the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association (IBCA).

  • Kevin Marsh, former Deerfield High School dean and baseball coach, won the Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Association (IHSBCA) Ethics in Coaching Award for embodying the “the highest ethical standards in all aspects of their participation in baseball.” Marsh retired from District 113 in 2021.

  • Tim Sirois, boys swimming and diving coach at Highland Park High School, was named Boys Swim Coach of the Year by the Illinois Swimming and Diving Coaches Association (ISDA).

  • Aileen Jung, sophomore at Deerfield High School, won the 2023 USA Taekwondo Illinois State Championships in the junior individual women's recognized poomsae.

  • Spencer Kastin and Konrad Piotrowski, students at Deerfield High School, competed at the IHSA State Tennis Tournament.

  • Kevin Obochi, senior at Highland Park High School, was named Senior Swimmer of the Year by the Illinois Swimming and Diving Coaches Association (ISDA) and is the IHSA state champion in the 50 Yard Freestyle.
