President’s Message

As I write my last President’s message, I wish to focus on two things, the highlights from the ASNA convention and the end of my term as your President. In addition to addressing business matters pertaining to nursing during the convention, delegates and convention attendees were unselfish in graciously accepting a challenge to make a financial donation to the new Don Eddins Nurse Advocacy Scholarship. Mr. Eddins has served as ASNA’s attorney for 20 years. District 2 donated almost $300.00 in a short period of time from the members present. Secondly, delegates and members were asked to donate money to assist the victims of Hurricane Michael. Just from this one attempt, the money collected from 100 persons exceeded $500.00. We had approximately four first attendees from District 2. Two served as delegates, Jennifer Humphries and Chris Forbes. We congratulate Jennifer Humphries who graduated from the Leadership Academy. I’m so proud of all the accomplishments of our District 2 members. Poster Presenter, Speaker, three award recipients, and newly elected members to state offices. Please look for more information about them in the newsletter.

In closing, I wish to express my sincere gratitude to each of you for your vote of confidence, but more importantly, your unwavering support and tireless efforts in completing each task given to you. Throughout my two-year term, I was amazed how the District 2 officers and chairs functioned so collectively and efficiently. Many projects were implemented successfully because our District leaders worked cohesively and always with a labor of love. Membership has grown over the past two years and I hope to see you at our December Christmas Dinner at Ruby Tuesday’s. More information is in the newsletter. Special thanks to Dr. Mary Beth Bodin for implementing the newsletter. Again, I wish to thank everyone for all you do.

Sincerely,
Dr. Jackie C. Williams
Inspiration: Thankfulness in Helping Others

As Nurses, we are prepared to help others on many different levels during the human lifespan and in a variety of conditions.  It is also important to know what we have, and do not have, to give in the help arena. Know where you are strong and where you are stretched. Our strength can be in identifying available resources, lending an ear, for example sometimes help is in the form of listening, providing encouraging guidance, or sympathy, based on the circumstance. It is a delicate balance to recognize what people want in contrast to what is needed.

In all that we do, patience and tolerance are key attributes that helps us to help others at the workplace and in our community. As we approach the Holiday season, we can be generous in all types of giving, emotional, material and spiritual. As we give we can express Thankfulness for God’s gifts to us, His people.

Patricia Green

Feel inspired, be encouraged and most of all be thankful for the ability to help others in need.
