Note from Commissioner Blubaugh: | | Merry Christmas! I hope you are enjoying the holiday season as much as I am. This time of year always brings the community together in many ways. Recently, I had the honor of serving Thanksgiving dinner to hundreds of people at Bethel Life Center. Sharing a meal and some laughs with so many families and volunteers was a powerful reminder of the compassion and generosity that define our community. | | This season also brought exciting news for Wichita as we welcomed Boeing back home through its acquisition of Spirit AeroSystems. Boeing’s legacy here dates back many decades, from building the Stearman Model 75 during World War II, to the completion of Air Force One, and now as the largest manufacturer of commercial jets in the United States. Wichita has always played a key role in aviation history, and this next chapter reinforces our place in it. | | As I wrap up my first year as a Sedgwick County Commissioner, I often reflect back on my career and the choices that led me to this office. Likewise, I love to hear how other County leaders ended up in public service. This month, in my interview series, County Engineer and Public Works Director, Lynn Packer, shares some fun memories and surprising information about his life - both professional and personal. Watch the video to learn more about his job and the challenges ahead for Public Works. | | Once again, I thank you for the privilege of serving District Two and wish you and your family peace, joy and plenty of time together. Here’s to a bright and hopeful welcome into 2026! | | The views expressed by Commissioner Jeff Blubaugh in this newsletter do not necessarily represent the governing body of the Sedgwick County Board of County Commissioners or Sedgwick County Government. | | Sedgwick County's 2025 Year in Review | | It's been a busy year at Sedgwick County Government! Commissioners honored him at a recent meeting, and coworkers threw a party, wearing Tim's favorite fashion accessory - a colorful, sometimes crazy tie! | | |
Tim Kaufman started as Director of Operations for COMCARE in July 2000 and has worked in various roles through the years, including Human Services, Human Resources, Public Services, Exploration Place and the Sedgwick County Zoo. Recently Tim received the National Alliance on Mental Health (NAMI) Wichita 2025 Community Service Award for his years of support for mental health services in Sedgwick County. Throughout his career, Tim said he favorite part "has always been working with and for a dedicated, passionate, caring team of coworkers. County staff across the board are committed to doing the right thing for our neighbors, family and friends and are very talented in what they do. I have had the chance to do meaningful work, and what more could anyone ask for?"
Before Sedgwick County, Tim Kaufman worked at Wichita State University and the Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services (SRS) for a total of 42 years in public service! Now he looks forward to spending more time with his wife and supporting her in her business ventures. Tim also plans to look for ways he can continue to serve our community.
