5Essentials Parent Survey Deadline, February 15
It is critical for Greenbrook, Spring Wood and Waterbury parents to complete the 5Essentials Survey in order for District 20 to receive important feedback from the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE).

All District 20 K-8 parents, teachers and fourth through eighth grade students will have the opportunity to take the seventh annual statewide survey. This survey is designed to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of a child's school. The parent survey allows parents to share their thoughts on the important elements of school effectiveness.

State of the District Address

Superintendent Castillo Presents the State of the District
During the rescheduled January Board of Education meeting on February 7, Dr. Castillo presented the State of the District Address. The first of its kind for District 20, Dr. Castillo presented on the past, present and future of District 20. Dr. Castillo:
- shared his first impressions of District 20,
- described details of the January Strategic Plan Retreat, and
- announced goal areas and the strategic plan schedule.

District 20 Begins Strategic Planning Process for 2019 -2021
|
|
On Saturday, January 12, a retreat was held to begin work on the 2019 – 2022 Keeneyville Elementary School District 20 Strategic Plan. The current plan that spanned 2016 – 2019 ends on June 30.
The all-day retreat was facilitated by Field Services Director, Reatha Owen from the Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB) and included a morning and afternoon session. The entire planning process will take three to six months to complete. The new plan is scheduled to be in place by July 1.
Five goal areas were identified at the retreat based on a a Strengths, Weakness, Opportunities and Threats (S.W.O.T.) Analysis. This strategic planning technique organizes an organizations top strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats into an organized priority list.
During the January retreat, five goal areas were identified:

Curriculum, Instruction, Assessment, and Technology
2.
Keeneyville Experience – Student Life and Culture
3.
Collaboration and Communication
4.
District Budget
5.
Facilities

January 31, 2019 Meeting
The Keeneyville Elementary School District 20 Board of Education held a regular board meeting on February 7, 2019. This meeting was rescheduled from January 31 due to inclement weather. Meeting highlights are listed below. The next regular meeting of the District 20 Board of Education will be held on Thursday, February 28 at 7:00 p.m. in the Spring Wood Middle School Library. Rescheduled January Board Meeting Highlights
The District 20 Board of Education presented Student Ignite Awards to sixth, seventh and eighth grade Spring Wood Middle School students. This recognition program invites staff members to nominate students in grades fourth through eighth who have gone above and beyond in academics, extra-curricular activities, athletics and/or social and emotional competencies.
Ken Detina, a representative from Siemens, provided an update on the installation of solar energy roof panels at all District 20 schools. A video was shared demonstrating the process involved and the goal for completion set for July, 2019.
- Consumer Price Index Information (CPI)
Wendy Flaherty, Director of Operations, shared that while it was anticipated that the CPI would be 2.1 or 2.2 based on trends, due to fluctuations from lower gas prices, the CPI came in at 1.9.
Approval of Jamison Pearce as Spring Wood Middle School Principal effective July 1, 2019.
Approval of the Siemens Solar Energy Site license agreement.

Spring Wood Principal Appointed for 2019 - 2020
|
|
Jamison Pearce Named Spring Wood Principal
During the rescheduled January regular Board of Education meeting held on February 7, the Keeneyville Elementary School District 20 Board of Education unanimously approved the appointment of Jamison Pearce as the next principal of Spring Wood Middle School, effective July 1, 2019.
“I believe Mr. Pearce is a wonderful addition to our administrative team and his diverse experience will help us immensely,” stated Keeneyville Superintendent Dr. Omar Castillo. “More importantly, he is a student-centered educator which was a top quality our interview team was looking for in our next Spring Wood principal.I am very excited to have him as part of our Keeneyville 20 family.”

Inclement Weather Information

Keeneyville Elementary School District 20 will utilize a variety of ways to communicate weather related school closing information. District 20 school administrators closely monitor weather conditions and a decision to close schools will be made by 5:30 am. Announcements will be:

Sent using the District 20 automated phone system

Added to local television and radio stations school closing lists
It is important that contact information is up-to-date at your school. Please notify your school office if your telephone or cell phone number has changed. District 20 will notify parents if school is starting late, dismissing early, canceling after school programming or closed for the day.
