Monthly News & Updates

October 2024 | Issue 19

Resiliency: New FEMA flood maps were certified July 31, 2024. Many District 3 residents were rezoned into a special hazard flood zone. For more information, visit the FEMA website. If you have a seawall and are looking for requirements to raise the seawall, this city brochure should help answer your questions.

Lift Station Renovation: Construction of lift station 61 on SE 5th Ct near Federal Highway should be complete in December. The roadway has reopened. The building will be painted and the area beautified.

Hazardous Waste Disposal: Pompano Beach partners with other cities for the collection and disposal of household hazardous waste and electronic scrap recycling. Materials are collected 14 times a year throughout the county. The next event takes place in Pompano Beach on October 12th at Community Park. Bring proof of residency.

Voter Guide: Mail-in ballots will be sent starting on October 1st. Early voting will be held from October 21st through November 3rd from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Emma Lou Olson Civic Center and E. Pat Larkins Community Center. November 5th is election day. Check your voting location as there have been changes for some District 3 residents. Cypress Elementary is no longer a precinct and The Church of Perpetual Life (950 S Cypress Rd) is a new election day precinct.

Commission Highlights

  • The FY2025 budget passed during two special sessions in September. I am very proud to have fought for and approved the city's first General Operating millage rate decrease in 8 years.
  • Two new statement pieces are coming to the beach. The Sons of the American Revolution will install a commemorative obelisk on the pier and a new public art sculpture, a seahorse, will be installed at the beach for one year before it is submerged at Shipwreck Park
  • There are 3 Pompano Beach charter amendments on the ballot this November. The city shared a guide to help explain the questions and here is my video explanation
