WHAT YOU SAID ABOUT OUR BUDGET

  • Satisfaction with City service levels is trending in the wrong direction year-over-year
  • Residents are generally unwilling to accept lower service levels from the City
  • Traffic solutions, public safety and paving our roads are your top priorities

District Updates: There are major projects happening across the city, but I remain focused on YOU and the everyday needs of our District. We’ve continued utility upgrades, added traffic calming and new public art. We awarded contracts for the new pickleball courts at Kip Jacoby Park, the McNab Streetscape, and a new skatepark — all exciting new amenities for our city. The 6th Terrace Bridge is still undergoing federal regulatory review. Despite our weekly—and sometimes daily—communication with the agencies, we expect the approval process to take another 4–6 months. Accelerating the 5-year paving plan remains one of my top priorities. Please continue to reach out with your ideas, questions, and concerns.

Commission Highlights

  • The Commission voted to allow museums as a new use for certain properties in the Atlantic Overlay District, near the beach. This paves the way for the development of a new Jellyfish Museum in Pompano Beach.
  • After more than a year of working with residents, the Commission approved an ordinance removing certain restrictions on waterfront backyards. Generally, this change eliminates the 25-foot rear yard triangle requirement and allows accessory structures (tiki huts, pergolas) in more locations.
  • The Commission held a special joint meeting to consider new debt and bonds for the Downtown. The meeting was contentious, and after significant public input, it was adjourned before the Commission could vote on any of the items. The Commission will reconvene later this month and in June to consider the proposed debt, City Hall design, and other changes to the Master Development Agreement (MDA).
  • The annual Cordish Community Grant program application period is open until May 31st. If you have a non-profit focused in target areas of the city, consider applying for support
