Monthly News & Updates

February 2025 | Issue 23

Real Time Crime Center (RTCC) Update: Pompano Beach BSO has upgraded its Real-Time Crime Center with cutting-edge technology and 24/7 operations, enhancing our ability to prevent and solve crimes. Thanks to these advancements, crime in our district, and city, continues to decline year-over-year. Let’s keep it that way—remember to lock your car doors at night!

Utility Upgrades Underway: Innovative pipe-lining technology is being deployed across our district to repair aging wastewater infrastructure. Over the next month, you may notice crews from Insituform working in areas like Garden Isles and Cypress Harbor. Once the work is complete, we’ll coordinate street resurfacing efforts to restore affected roads. For the latest updates, follow me on Instagram

Commuter Rail Update: Broward County is hosting a public meeting in Pompano Beach this week to discuss Broward Commuter Rail (BCR) North—a proposed new 15.5-mile commuter rail line along the Florida East Coast (FEC) railway corridor. The northern section would extend service to new stations north of the New River, including Fort Lauderdale, Oakland Park, Pompano Beach, and Deerfield Beach. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn more and share your feedback!

Commission Highlights

Recent commission meetings have been more detailed and productive as we continue to prioritize accountability and results for the people of Pompano Beach. Here are some key highlights:

  • $50,000 Donation for Homeless Outreach: We celebrated a generous contribution to support our city's efforts in helping those in need.
  • Pompano Eagles 8U National Champions: Congratulations to our talented young athletes on their incredible season!
  • Investment in Public Safety: We approved financing for essential capital items, including a new $2.1 million fire truck.
  • Advancing Workforce Development: We initiated the rezoning of land at the airpark to accommodate a future technical school, in partnership with Barrington Irving.

At our January 14th commission meeting, we requested detailed contracts and expenditure data following procurement ordinance changes enacted in early 2024. After two weeks, the city provided the requested documents on January 29th. Based on my review of the contracts and comparisons with other cities in Broward County, I strongly believe substantial changes to the procurement ordinance are necessary. Further, I have asked city staff to identify 5 to 10 of the least productive and most costly contracts for termination. Redirecting these funds will allow us to invest in more impactful community projects, such as completing the paving of our neighborhoods. Stay tuned for further updates as we continue this work toward greater efficiency and accountability.
