July 2024 | Issue 16

Road Work in District 3: Repaving of Southbound Cypress Rd from SW/SE 9th St to McNab Rd will start in July. The potholes on Cypress Rd near SE 3rd St will be repaired. Additionally, as a result of lift station 61 construction, SE 5th Court will be temporarily closed from US-1 to SE 18th. Construction is expected to last 30 days.

A Win for Marine Animals: A Florida bill prohibiting the “intentional release of balloons” into the environment was signed into law this week. Starting July 1st, sending a balloon into the sky will be considered a noncriminal littering offense, with a fine of up to $150. Check out a complete summary of bills passed during the 2024 Florida legislative session.

Charter Amendments: This November you'll be able to vote on legal amendments that change the way our city handles contracts, leases and the transfer of city property. We'll continue to discuss the proposed changes and what it means for you at my Community Meetings. Hope to see you there.

Commission Highlights

  • At a special meeting on June 20th, the City & CRA voted 4-2 to move forward with the Downtown Master Developer Agreement with RocaPoint Partners. I asked for amendments to the agreement, including a resident survey on traffic and incentives for including local minority businesses.
  • The City presented the preliminary FY 2025 budget. Pompano Beach's taxable value grew over 10% last year. My goal is a 1% reduction in millage rate for every 5% increase in taxable value. I will fight to reduce your tax rate.
  • We are always looking for residents willing to serve on the city boards. The Nuisance Abatement board currently has an opening. Fill out an application and get involved.
