Pasadena Water and Power Begins Testing Portions of the City’s Drinking Water System Impacted by Eaton Fire
|
PASADENA, Calif.— The Eaton Fire caused damage to several City of Pasadena reservoirs and pump stations, potentially impacting water quality within the areas identified on the map located here:
https://pwp.cityofpasadena.net/pasadena-drinking-water-system-impacted-by-eaton-fire/
The health and safety of our residents remains our top priority. Due to the heroic efforts of our First Responders, including Water and Power staff, we have started the process of testing the water quality in areas that serve much of the impacted areas. Though the City of Pasadena maintains and operates its own water quality testing lab, we are working closely with the State Water Resources Control Board to ensure proper adherence to all safety protocols and regulations.
The City expects to provide additional information to the public on the afternoon of Monday, January 13 regarding testing results and next steps.
To protect the health and safety of our residents:
In the impacted areas, do not drink tap water – Bottled water should be used for all drinking (including baby formula and juice), brushing teeth, washing dishes, making ice, and in food preparation until further notice. This also applies to pets and domestic animals. Additionally, do not try to treat the water yourself. Boiling, freezing, filtering, adding chlorine or other disinfectants, or letting water stand, will not make the water safe to drink. City of Pasadena Announces Fire Damaged Building Inspections
PASADENA, Calif.— As evacuation area restrictions are lifted and residents return to their homes, if the building is located in the immediate fire zone, they may find a colored building inspection placard placed at their property indicating that it has been inspected by Pasadena Building and Safety Inspectors. These placards are being placed on damaged properties including abutting sites and are used by Building Inspectors to identify the level of damage of each building.
A Red Placard (Unsafe) means that the building is unsafe to enter or use; severe injury or death could result. The building is a collapse hazard, may be crushed by an adjacent building, or contains one or more hazardous conditions. Permission to enter can only be obtained from the Building Official. The building may or may not be repairable; consult with a licensed engineer or architect to determine the next steps.
A Yellow Placard (Restricted Use) means that the building can be used per the restrictions noted on the placard. Parts of the building may be usable, or the building can be entered briefly to obtain important possessions. However, parts of the building might be hazardous, and use of these sections may not be allowed.
A Green Placard (Inspected) means that the building has had a visual assessment by a building professional, and no apparent structural hazard has been found as of the date and time of the assessment. The inspection may not reveal other latent property hazards, and owners are encouraged to hire a certified or licensed professional to ensure the property is structurally sound.
For questions, please contact Building and Safety by phone (626) 744-4200 or email BuildingRecovery@CityOfPasadena.net.

City of Pasadena Announces Windstorm Debris Pickup
|
PASADENA – The recent windstorm resulted in accumulation of a year’s worth of green waste debris in just two days. Collection of the debris has begun by the City’s Public Works Department.
Residents can assist in the clean-up effort by placing their green waste (branches, bushes, leaves, grass clippings, etc.) in their yard waste container or on the street next to the curb. Do not include any other debris besides yard waste. Your yard waste should be loose as it will be shredded after it has been collected. Do not place it in plastic bags as these will jam the shredder. Do not block your driveway or your neighbors with your debris. Leave room for your trash cans and do not extend your green waste further than the width of a parked car. Do not leave yard waste debris in alleys.
Due to the massive amount of debris build up residents should expect a delay in the clean-up process. The estimated completion time to clean-up the debris citywide is six to eight weeks.
For storm debris other than green waste materials, such as broken swing sets, fences, gates, lawn furniture, etc. contact your City of Pasadena approved franchised hauler Franchise Hauler List 21 Effective 7-1-2024.
For questions regarding windstorm debris pickup, contact a representative of the City Service Center at CSC@CityOfPasadena.net or (626) 744-7311. For TTY service, please dial 711.
