Upcoming District 3 Meetings
Brush Up Broadway is Back
Join us for the third annual Brush Up Broadway event! On April 29th between 9:00am and 12:00pm, residents, businesses, and volunteers will come together to pick up trash, clean debris, and paint over graffiti on Broadway and the subsequent alleys between Kellogg and Lincoln. Meet us 9:00am at the Christian Faith Centre parking lot (1130 S Broadway).
Little Free Libraries in District 3
Wichita Public Library, Wichita Literacy Coalition and several community partners have created and installed 26 Little Free Libraries throughout City Council District III – each one decorated after a letter of the alphabet.

The Little Free Libraries are part of a project to help kids in low literacy areas have better access to books, tools and resources to explore reading at home. Developing reading skills is important for long-term success of residents, both in school and beyond.

“All children aged five and under deserve access to reading materials that ignite joy for learning and early learning skills,” said Larry Daniels, Program Manager for the Wichita Literacy Coalition.

The 26 Little Free Libraries are decorated for each letter of the alphabet, creating a space where free books and information can be easily accessed by residents. An audio component created by Wichita State University’s Engineering students pronounce letters when the door opens. Books for early learners and parents will be provided by the Library and community partners; everyone is welcome to use the Little Free Libraries and to share books forward.

“Strategic investments in family engagement and early literacy efforts are critical as new parents learn about the library and the multitude of ways the library and community partners collaborate to help them raise a reader,” said Jaime Nix, Director of Libraries. “We want to make sure Wichita’s parents and caregivers are aware of how Wichita Public Library can help and how we can connect them to additional resources at their neighborhood branch.”

Thanks to the following partners for their investment in the project: Evergy, Hutton, Wichita Public Library Foundation, Wichita State University Engineering, and CityArts.

If you are interested in donating funds to the Little Free Library, you can contact the Wichita Public Library Foundation at (316) 204-1348.

It's Tall Grass & Weeds Season
Spring weather is upon us and that means grass and weeds are beginning to grow! Make sure your lawncare equipment is ready to go and ensure you trim all parts of your property before anything grows 12 inches tall. Grass or weeds taller than 12 inches is a violation of city ordinance (Sec. 7.40.060) and can result in abatement charges!
The Results Are In! See How Wichita Measured Up
Since 2006, the City has participated in the National Community Survey to gauge resident satisfaction with municipal services and to help determine priority areas for improvement. Today the City of Wichita, in partnership with mySidewalk, launched an interactive data platform to allow residents to more easily explore results from the recently released Polco Resident Satisfaction Survey.

Wichita’s Resident Survey Insights Dashboard is fueled by the idea that data is for everyone, not just the experts. The platform provides simplified data visualizations that unlock insights so users can identify resident priorities including a variety of opportunities to compare survey participant results across a range of demographic and geographic crosstabs. The featured graphs and maps are available for public download, and community data is exportable in multiple formats.
