District 4 Announcement

Free Tire Recycling Event at Yolo Landfill on August 6

(Woodland, CA) – On August 6 from 9:30 am to 2 pm, Yolo County will host a free tire recycling event at the Yolo County Central Landfill, located at 44090 County Road 28H (Off County Road 102 between Davis and Woodland). Yolo County residents are encouraged to turn in their used passenger car, truck, or farm tractor tires during this free event. Participants may bring in up to nine (9) tires for free recycling.

A grant from CalRecycle (Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery) provided funding for the event.

“During the last tire recycle event held at the landfill, Yolo County collected 1,125 tires,” said Board Chair, Supervisor Angel Barajas. “With every tire brought in, the community helps do their part for the environment and putting their old tires for better use.”

Things to remember when participating in this tire recycling event:

▪ A maximum of 9 tires

▪ Air-filled tires only from a passenger car, truck, and tractor tires with or without rims

▪ Not accepted - Heavy equipment tires, tires with a diameter greater than 60 inches, tract tires, business generated tires or bins full of tires

For more information on restrictions, contact Pam Hedrick, Yolo County Recycling Coordinator at (530) 666-8856. Farmers and ranchers may contact Yolo County Environmental Health at (530) 666-8646 to obtain a hauler permit allowing for transport of up to 20 tires per vehicle. There is a 40-tire limit per participating resident or farm.

There is a second life waiting for California’s waste tires. They may end up as rubberized asphalt concrete (RAC) or tire-derived aggregate (TDA) in civil engineering projects throughout Yolo County. RAC is pavement material made with grounded waste tires, which is durable, safe, and quiet. TDA is the second largest reuse of tires in the U.S. and helps solve several engineering problems where cost-effective lightweight and free-draining materials are needed.
