COUNCIL MEETS TONIGHT FOR SPECIAL CALLED MEETING, WORK SESSION, AND ALCOHOL AND ZONING HEARING

MILLAGE RATE HEARINGS SCHEDULED

OLD GARBAGE CART COLLECTION CONTINUES IN DISTRICT 4 THIS WEEK

Residents in the following subdivisions, and nearby streets, are asked to place old GFL, Fulton Sanitation, Reliable, or other non-city branded old garbage receptacles on the curb and leave them in place for collection. Collection in these communities will continue through the month of August. Please leave the carts out until they are collected.

RECYCLING AND BULK DAY IN DISTRICT 4 A GREAT SUCCESS!

With the sudden temporary closure of Merk/Miles Transfer station, Councilman Sebastian arranged the free recycle and bulk day last Saturday. The event was a massive success as residents took advantage of the opportunity to declutter and recycle many old and unwanted household items. Approximately 30 tons of bulk and recycled items were collected and transported to the waste processing center.


Dubbed the "Keep it clean, keep it green!" campaign moves to District 6 on Saturday, August 12 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Creel Park located at 2775 Creel Road, South Fulton, GA 30349. Look out for more of these events planned across the city.

COUNCIL UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED CEDAR GROVE/ RIVERTOWN ROUNDABOUT

In a 7-0 vote, the City of South Fulton City Council, at its July 18th regular meeting, unanimously approved a contract to CMC, Inc for the construction of the roundabout at Rivertown and Cedar Grove Road. The project is expected to start later in 2023 and will be completed by 2024. The council approved the projects at a cost of $2,340,710.00 plus a ten (10) percent contingency fee. The funds are available in the TSPLOST I fund for Public Works.

BISHOP ROAD LANDFILL SOLD!

CITY OF SOUTH FULTON ISSUES PRESS RELEASE ON SALE

PRESS STATEMENT:

NEW OWNER OF

BISHOP ROAD LANDFILL

TO CLEAN SITE ON

EPD CONSENT ORDER

A site in South Fulton with long-standing community concerns is now under new ownership. The unpermitted landfill at 7635 Bishop Road has been subject to ongoing environmental violations and enforcement by EPD under previous ownership. EPD entered into an agreement with the new owner to ensure the land is remediated and put back into productive use.



As a result of the cleanup efforts, residents in the area may see increased activity at the site. This activity is in the service of achieving compliance and will be monitored by EPD. EPD remains committed to ensuring the site achieves compliance with the law, and it will continue to evaluate its enforcement regarding the previous owner.

CITY OF SOUTH FULTON MORTGAGE AND RENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

The City of South Fulton is currently accepting applications for for its Rental and Mortgage Assistance Program. The city previously made assistance available from Fulton County Community Development Block Grant, but applications are closed on that portion of funding. Under the new current ARPA funded program, households in need can apply for up to $20,000.00 of assistance. This program provides rental and mortgage assistance to eligible families, seniors, and persons with disabilities. Interested persons may apply by completing an online application at www.cityofsouthfultonga.gov.

Assistance with eligible repairs is based on income qualifications and prioritized for households with vulnerable members such as young children and elderly adults.

 

The eligible repairs for the Home Rehabilitation Program include:

 

• Electrical - repair of breakers, panels, or wiring

• HVAC systems - repair or replace

• Roof - replacement or repair

• Plumbing Interior - water lines, sewer lines, and toilets

• Water heater - replacement or repair

• Accessibility issues

• Weatherization

• Code violations

• Health and Safety Issues

City of South Fulton 


The 2016 Georgia General Assembly passed bill HB514 to incorporate South Fulton. Governor Nathan Deal signed the bill into law on April 29, 2016. On November 8th, 59 percent of the citizens of what would become South Fulton voted to charter the city, now the second largest city in Fulton County. This referendum was part of a "cityhood movement" in the Atlanta metropolitan area that began in 2005 with the incorporation of Sandy Springs on the north side of Atlanta. Several other communities in Fulton voted to incorporate in 2007.
