Hello residents of District 4 and welcome to my monthly newsletter.
Before I share an update on what the D4 Office has been up to during the summer recess, I want to acknowledge the horrific event that took place within our community this summer and highlight that even in these darkest hours, our community showed up for one another.
I want to extend my deepest condolences to the families, friends and communities of the victims and my fervent wishes for complete and speedy recoveries to the injured survivors. I want to thank the Gilroy Police Department, our Sheriff’s department and all of the first responders for minimizing what could have been even far greater carnage, acknowledging that a single death is one too many. I have deep gratitude for the medical and support personnel at all three of our public hospitals for springing into immediate action, coming in voluntarily, staying all night and providing excellent care to the survivors and their families.
Our community is strong. We come together both in times of celebration and times of sorrow and common anger, and sometimes the best we can do is support one another and renew our pledge to safe, inclusive and healthy community. At the end of the day this is what we are, a community.
Let's get started.
Although there were no planned meetings for the board, committees or commissions during July, the D4 Office was busy spending time in the district with all of you.
I kicked off our D4 Reads campaign, which brought me to different libraries throughout the district to read to the County's youngest residents. My last storytime for the summer was on

at the Willow Glen Library. Children benefit greatly from early childhood literacy. And each and every one of us can be a reading champion. I encourage everyone to become familiar with your local library as they are a great resource for the whole family.
Last month you may have seen the D4 team out in the community visiting D4 food establishments as well. We all have to eat and what's better than supporting our local eateries while taking a lunch break? I welcome you to share your #D4Eats recommendations on our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
Speaking of which, I am on the Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Nextdoor. There you can find resources, news and events.
