What's New in District 5?
Town Hall Meeting
Mark your calendars for July 11 for a District 5 town hall meeting at the Calvary Baptist Church. Come meet your neighbors and engage in discussion about homelessness and public safety, or whatever issues come to mind.

We'll have guest speakers Anaheim Police Chief Jorge Cisneros and Matt Bates, of our nonprofit partner in addressing homelessness, City Net.

If you are planning to attend, please RSVP to rsvpanaheimdistrict5@gmail.com.
Coffee and Conversation
It was a pleasure to engage in great conversation with our residents in District 5 at last month's meet and greet at Tierra Mia Coffee.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to talk to me and especially to those I had the opportunity to meet for the first time. It was great to see folks bring their friends and families to learn more about city services.

Thank you to Tierra Mia Coffee for welcoming us with open arms and outstanding hospitality.
Builders for Babies
An observatory made from diaper boxes?

This was the scene at the recent Builders for Babies Diaper Drive event at Angel Stadium of Anaheim. I was honored to judge diaper box structures, built for a good cause.

More than 1 million diapers were collected by the participating local home builders. Since this annual drive started in 2011, about 5 million diapers have been donated to those in need.

I was very proud to be a part of this significant event and thank the Angels Foundation for their support.
New Graduates

I was honored to be the commencement speaker at the North Orange Continuing Education graduation. Several hundred students received their diplomas in both career education and high school education.

I have been a technical education instructor for the district since 1975 in the field of electricity and electrical codes. In the past 44 years, I have taught more than 4,000 students, giving them an opportunity to improve their career path.

It was heartwarming to see the joy in the faces of the graduates and their families.

Congratulations to all of the graduates!
Celebrating America

My wife, Susan, and I rode in the Annual Anaheim Hills Parade with our Katella High School Girls Softball team. Go Knights!

We rode in a restored 1951 Republic Services truck. What a cool ride that was! It was great to see the strong Anaheim Community Spirit support this important holiday. Red, White and Blue never looked so good!
Improving the Neighborhood
Street Light Update
Things are getting brighter in District 5!

Thanks to resident input, we have been able to complete the first phase of street light installations for the neighborhood north of Virginia Avenue has just been completed. Phase 2 is set to be completed in July or early August.
Anaheim's New Budget
Our city budget for the 12 months from July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2020 includes awesome projects that will help our community!

Check out some highlights from this year's budget.
Around the District
World Refugee Day
More than 200 residents joined me at the World Refugee Day event at Anaheim Central Library last month.

The even featured displays about support services offered for refugees, as well as lunch supplied by three local chefs showcasing foods from Afghanistan, Somalia and Iraq.

I was honored to present a City Council proclamation recognizing World Refugee Day on June 20.
Giving Back
Residents in the Anna Drive community have new furniture, thanks to an event with River Church last month. As part of their church ministry, they distribute furniture and household goods to those in need.

I was proud to join Anaheim Community Services and the Anaheim Police Department to turn this event into a mini fiesta.

I’m very appreciative of the River Church’s commitment to our community. Thank you to the many volunteers who made this event a success.
Green Expo
Our first OC Green Expo was a huge success!

The event, put on by Anaheim Public Utilities, featured more than 50 booths with earth-friendly information and demonstrations on how we can all become better stewards of our environment.

Local students showed their skills at a solar car race and residents were able to test drive electric vehicles.

I can't wait to see the event come back next year.
