September 2020 Edition
Both Howard County and the State of Maryland are making steady progress in recovering from COVID-19. Hospital numbers at the State and local level remain low and we are now in Stage 3 of reopening - another critical step for businesses, displaced workers and our state and local economies. I appreciate that Howard County has been following the State's reopening stages for the past several months, allowing our businesses to maintain competitiveness with other counties.

Despite our progress, I remain concerned about both county tax revenue and the state dollars that fund a significant portion of our school system and other essential local services. Many of our neighbors and local businesses are still suffering so please join me in looking after them and continuing to do what you can to move us to a full recovery.

This month's newsletter includes valuable information on the election, development, legislation and other important county activities. Continue to receive up-to-date announcements regarding reopening efforts in Howard County here. You can also like my Facebook Page for District 5 news and announcements. Please share our newsletter and encourage others to sign up so they can stay apprised of what is happening around the community.

Howard County Council, District 5
Legislation

As the County Council returns from August recess, it is actively engaged in new legislative efforts. The link below directs you to the page on the County Council website where you can find all Howard County legislation being considered.

A public hearing is held on every bill, resolution or other legislative action. This is the opportunity for you to make your views known to the Council. It is critical that council members hear from the public so please consider testifying on legislation that is of interest to you.

As we wrapped up FY2020, the Council passed several amendments to the county Charter, which will now appear on the November ballot for public referendum. A sample ballot for your reference can be viewed at this link. The infographic below serves as a resource for your 2020 General Election questions.
Please be sure to check the link to the full calendar for any date or time changes that may be necessary due to scheduling during the continued stay at home order.
