Hello District 6!

On Tuesday, February 13th, I questioned the Mayor's SAWS Board appointment process and his nomination of Amy Hardberger to represent the Southwest Quadrant. There was little to no communication with his colleagues on the City Council regarding this appointment. An open process would have yielded a large pool of candidates to choose from that best represents the communities in the City Council Districts of the Southwest Quadrant. Residents interested in open positions on the SAWS board can always apply at
https://webapp9.sanantonio.gov/BoardCommApplication/vacancies.

I believe that there are better candidates in the area who can serve and represent the Southwest Quadrant with the perspective of the community. Below you will find our list of District 6 Board and Commission appointments available.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!! On Saturday, February 24th, between 8:30 am and 3 pm we will be cleaning up the area behind Silver Creek Square and Whataburger. This area is a major eye sore. Let's take pride in our District 6 Community! This area is adjacent to a future Linear Creekway Trail that will run from the existing trail at Cathedral Rock Park and connect to a trailhead on Grissom Rd. The trail project is currently under design and is being coordinated with a Flood Control project in the same area where we will be having our clean up project. Breakfast and lunch will be provided, click here to RSVP to volunteer.

Yours in service,

Greg

On Monday, February 12th the District 6 Team and Councilman Brockhouse hosted their District 6 Infrastructure Town Hall meeting. The discussion revolved around learning how the City prioritizes, funds and focuses on Infrastructure. The District 6 Team also created a database of items that the residents want, so when it is time to fund projects Councilman Brockhouse and his team can make informed decisions on funding the projects that will have the largest impact for the future of the District. In addition, representatives from TxDOT spoke about projects within Council District 6. Also, there were information tables by City departments and partners at the event.

SOMETHING TO SAY: THE MCNAY PRESENTS 100 YEARS OF AFRICAN AMERICAN ART

Organized by the Museum's Head of Curatorial Affairs, René Paul Barilleaux, in consultation with curatorial adviser Lowery Stokes Sims, Something to Say is the first exhibition of modern, postwar, and contemporary African American art to be presented at the McNay in an exhibition of this scale. Featuring over 50 paintings, sculptures, works on paper, and photographs by a wide range of 20th- and 21st- century artists, Something to Say draws its contents primarily from three San Antonio collections: the McNay, the Harmon and Harriet Kelley Foundation for the Arts, and the Nicholas/Foster collection.
