District 6 Matters: It's Back to School Season!
Important Updates & Resources
Dear Neighbor,
With back to school season in full effect, it gives me great joy to bring you another edition of our District 6 Newsletter. Much has occurred since the last edition, so without much lead in let's get into some important updates and resources for East Oakland.

To ensure our students have a successful return to school and to protect the health of every resident, we must continue to wear mask and exercise caution on how we gather. Recently Alameda County, in alignment with the CDC restrictions, announced that residents must wear masks when indoors in public spaces. Additionally, OUSD put together a list of resources for students, teachers and staff who still have not been vaccinated, including ride share options (see section 1B) for those traveling to a vaccination sites. With Delta and other variants increasing, I highly encourage everyone to get vaccinated as it remains the best way to protect our community.
Thank you to those who continue to build community in a way that also protects our neighbors. A great example of this was this year's National Night Out. It was such a pleasure to join residents for good food, vibes, and networking.

I was proud to join with East Oakland residents and organizations come together to try to help save the Walgreens on 81st & International. While our petition, press conference, and correspondence with Walgreens was unsuccessful I remain committed to delivering resources that address our East Oakland food and pharmacy desert. In the interim, here are the closest pharmacies to the closed location, which also offer free prescription drug delivery.

Lastly, please join me every 1st & 3rd Sunday at Akoma Market, 7101 Foothill Blvd, where I will be hosting office hours from 11am–1pm. I also invite D6 residents to join me every Friday at 8:30am for a work out at the Arroyo Viejo NFC Court. Hope to see you soon!

A. City of Oakland – Vaccination

Vaccination continues to protect against severe COVID-19 illness, but with the COVID-19 Delta variant now infecting a small percentage of vaccinated people as well as many unvaccinated people, Alameda County has issued a new health order requiring masks indoors in public places.

Vaccines remain the most powerful tool in the fight against COVID-19, including the Delta variant. They are safe, effective, and FREE for everyone 12 and older. Visit https://covid19.acgov.org/vaccines.page?#availability to learn where you can find a vaccination site near you or call 510-208-4VAX (510-208-4829).
