Dear Neighbor,
I hope you had a relaxing Labor Day weekend. Last moth, I particiated in the Concert in the Park, Disney VoluntEARS park beautification project at Oak Canyon Nature Center, and joined my City Council colleagues to issue a joint statement on the findings of the investigation report.
I encourage you to follow me on social media for more updates and announcements.

We had a great time at the annual Concert in the Park at Canyon Rim Park. There was live music from a talented country band, face-painting for the kids, and food trucks. Thank you to the HOA for the great idea to celebrate and bring together neighbors.

Disney VoluntEARS Park Beautification
at Oak Canyon Nature Center
| |
This year, Disney VoluntEARS is celebrating 40 years of volunteerism in Anaheim. I joined Mayor Pro Tem Natalie Rubalcava to launch their summer initiative of beautifying four parks in Anaheim. I joined the volunteers to help with the beautification efforts in Oak Canyon Nature Center. It's great to see our community come together to improve our city!
The Art of Living Foundation
I presented a certificate of recognition for the outstanding work of Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, founder of the Art of Living Foundation which helps people around the globe and of all ages build their mental health and wellness. The movement promotes diversity, peace and understanding.
September is Service Club Month in recognition of the countless volunteer hours and money raised by various nonprofit organizations benefiting numerous community service projects each year. The City of Anaheim passed a resolution recognizing September as a time to honor all the wonderful things that members of these organizations do within their communities. Anaheim has several incredible clubs including the Rotary, Kiwanis, Shriner's, Lions, Ebell, Assistance League, VFW, American Legion, and many other nonprofits that continuously provide invaluable service to their communities through both monetary and hands-on projects that support and help those in need. Thank you to all the service club members for helping to make Anaheim a better city!

Anaheim's Hotel Worker Safety Law
|
Anaheim’s hotel worker protections law is in place and takes effect Jan. 1, 2024 bringing new rules and requirements for hotels and motels to ensure the safety of our workforce within a major industry in the City of Anaheim.
Hotel and motel operators need to be aware of and prepare for the new rules, which require electronic security alarms for those working in guestrooms and restrooms as well as alarm monitoring and response, among other safety provisions.
The ordinance, unanimously approved by Anaheim’s City Council in June, also requires reporting of incidents to hotel management for tracking and remedying, notifying guests of security policies at check-in and warning that violations will result in removal of hotel patrons at their own cost, and paid time for training and to report any incidents to Anaheim Police.
The rules are already part of Anaheim’s municipal code and take effect Jan. 1, 2024 a phase-in period to give hotels and motels time to get panic buttons, to prepare for monitoring and to meet the law’s other requirements.

Know Your Way During Fire Season
|
With regional fires around us, I want to remind you to be fire aware, alert and ready should we see fires closer to home. Everyone should have an emergency plan in place, especially those of us living in Anaheim Hills with the risk of wildfires, earthquakes and landslides.
Anaheim has a comprehensive evacuation strategy should we need to get people out during a wildfire or other emergency. Everyone in the hills should know their neighborhood evacuation zone and primary route out, plus two or three other routes in case roads are closed or conditions change.
In addition to knowing your evacuation route, it's good to know what zone you're in. You should have an emergency plan in place if you're at work, if your kids are at school, or if you have elderly relatives or pets at home.
Know your way — and what you'll do in an emergency. For more information, click the link below.

What You Need To Know About Organic Waste
|
Single-family residences should now be separating food scraps from the main trash and putting them in the brown yard waste bin.
Food scraps that can go in the yard and organics waste bin include fruits, vegetables, meat, bones, eggshells, shellfish, grains and coffee grounds. You can also put food-soiled paper and paper bags without wax coatings in the organics bin.
Baking soda and charcoal filters can be used to minimize odors in your organic bin.
If you live in an apartment or townhouse, check with your property manager to understand how the program will work in your community.
