District 64 eNews August 19th, 2022

Bring on the new school year!

As we prepare for the start of the school year, we got our new teachers caught up on all things District 64 at New Teacher Orientation this week.

Above is a picture of most of the new faces on the team. In all, we have 44 teachers joining District 64! We can't wait to see how our Class of 2022 teachers impact our students and community.

On our website, you can check out a photo gallery from the New Teacher Orientation here.

Speaking of websites...have you seen the upgrades to d64.org?

We hope you find it easier to navigate and better designed to showcase our district.

I'm still reviewing things to ensure they're updated, but if you spot an issue, please let me know. You can email me (Chris Lilly) here, and I'll work on fixing it right away.

Highlights of the August 18th School Board Meeting

The August 18th, 2022, regular Board of Education meeting was held at Lincoln Middle School. A video of the meeting is now available on the Board Meetings webpage.

Some of the items discussed were:

  • Construction update- The buildings will be ready to welcome the students on the first day of class, which is Wednesday.
  • School Resource Officers (SROs)-There was no action item on the agenda regarding SROs, so the board discussed the issue and what needs to be next in the evaluation process of the subject.
  • You can find a more detailed recap of this discussion here.
  • Contract Extension- The Board approved a two-year contract extension for Superintendent Dr. Eric Olson. The contract now ends in 2025. Dr. Olson began at District 64 in 2019.
  • “I just wanted to say thank you to the board. I very much appreciate it,” said Dr. Olson. I really like it here in District 64, and I'm happy to be here for a few more years. So thank you."
  • Personnel update- The district will have all certified-staff openings filled once school starts.
  • “It really is a team effort,” said Dr. Joel Martin, Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources. “A lot of credit goes out to our building administrators. Whenever there's an opening, they jump on that very quickly. They don’t wait around…so the credit really does go to our entire administrative team.”
  • COVID-19 Guidelines-The board approved the district's COVID-19 guidelines for the 2022-2023 year.
