No School On Monday

All D64 schools and offices were closed today (Friday, January 12th) due to the winter weather. Also, a reminder that all of our schools will also be closed on Monday, January 15th, for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Protecting & Preserving Our Schools

We appreciate all of the families who came out to the Joint PTO meeting on Thursday night and who followed along virtually. Superintendent Dr. Ben Collins explained the current state of district facilities and described what a potential Lincoln addition could look like. Plus, Director of Facility Management Noel Mendoza joined Dr. Collins to give a group of families a tour of Lincoln Middle School to see some of the areas that need the most work.

"Our students and staff deserve the best schools possible," said Dr. Collins as he wrapped up his presentation.

Registration Opens Next Week

Registration opens for all District 64 students on Tuesday, January 16th; this includes preschool and kindergarten.

Like last year, we improved the registration process to put us in the best position to help your children. The deadline to register your child for the 2024-2025 school year is noon on Friday, March 22nd. We are offering an early bird discount on families’ school fees if they complete registration, as well as pay fees before noon on Friday, March 22nd. For any families who do not register by this date, you’ll receive a records release as we’re assuming you’re going to another district.

Read the rest of Superintendent Dr. Ben Collins' letter regarding registration information and the March 22nd deadline.

Holiday Sing 2023

It's hard not to smile looking back at the memories created from this year's Holiday Sing at each school! Our students's faces lit up when they walked into a packed gym and saw their parents in the crowd.

Not only did all of the kids do a great job spreading cheer, but a HUGE shoutout to all of our talented music teachers and staff who helped make this another successful year of performances.

News From Dec. 21st BOE Meeting

The District 64 Board of Education held a regular meeting on Thursday, December 21st, in the Hendee Rooms at the Jefferson Early Childhood Center. One of the important items is that the District committed to fully staffing School Psychologists in each building to support mental health, safety and special education.

You can view the meeting video here.

Spotlight on Field Elementary School

Field Principal Dr. Courtney Goodman and Assistant Principal Christa Donnelly presented to the Board how their school is Learning to Grow Together! That mantra was highlighted academically, social-emotionally and how they’re building a community. Dr. Goodman and Mrs. Donnelly broke down how they’re looking at different math and reading data points to improve student growth.

One of the many exciting things going on in the building has been the implementation of Phoenix Nests, which provides the opportunity to connect as a whole school. Once a month, the Nests gather and are filled with students from each grade paired up into a group. These students stay together with a staff member and their group for the duration of their time at Field.

“They’re connecting with a staff member who they may not have ever connected with, or it’s someone that they haven’t met yet because they’re a younger student. Our hope is that students will begin to see one another in different spaces and places and know who they are,” said Dr. Goodman. “The most important part is having those strong relationships with others.”

Around D64

At the end of December, Lincoln 8th graders explored some World War I artifacts and participated in a WWI-themed activity with guests from the First Division Museum at Cantigny Park.

The learning, collaborating, and re-connecting were amazing!

Thanks in part to some help from District 64 schools and the rest of the community, more than 1,000 pieces of winter gear were donated to the Park Ridge Winter Coat Drive!

This was the first time that Lincoln Middle School and Carpenter and Roosevelt Elementary Schools participated in the drive benefiting the Chicago Strong Futures Program.

In December, Emerson Instrumental Music students put up their annual drum tree in honor of the holiday season. Students brought in food and supplies to put around the tree, and the donations were brought to the Maine Township food pantry.

The event was a success and shows what can happen when you set a clear goal for students!

Age Appropriate Placement

It is District 64’s practice to place students age-appropriately at each grade level upon enrollment. If you have a preschooler at home, please keep the following in mind regarding enrollment in District 64 for the 2024-2025 school year.

  • Students who will turn six before June 1, 2024 will be placed age-appropriately in first grade upon registration, regardless of prior enrollment in kindergarten.
  • Students who turn six after June 1, 2024, and are not currently enrolled in District 64 may elect to enter kindergarten or first grade for the 2024-25 school year.

The District has adopted a policy for accelerated placement and early entrance procedures. In these cases, a student may be placed at a higher grade level. More information about this may be found on the District 64 website.

Spelling Bee Information
