August 2018
Dear District 67 Community Member,

To keep you informed, we will be sending you the District 67 Board Report on a monthly basis.  Please note: These are not the official minutes of the Board of Education. Minutes once approved, board agendas, packets, and videos can can be found here
President's Report
Mike Borkowski welcomed everyone back to school. He reviewed the District 67 Mission and Vision statements, along with the six Milestones. Mike noted that achieving our Vision and doing so both quickly and in a fiscally responsible manner is one way that he evaluates our success. He also commented that it is important to periodically review our desired state in its entirety to ensure we are focused on the whole goal, not just discrete portions of it. Mike reviewed some areas of progress related to the Milestones. He remarked that upcoming initiatives include the new report card, transformations of our learning environment, the development of district dashboards and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). Mike concluded his comments by stating he is incredibly proud of what has been accomplished and optimistic about the future. View video
Superintendent's Report
Mike Simeck thanked the Board members for their involvement in the schools and stated that they are much more than volunteers; they give a tremendous amount of time, learning, and are passionate about the District. He noted that teachers are proud of the Mission, Vision, and Milestones, believe in them, and are implementing them every day.
Mike stated that some of the projects completed over the summer illustrate the commitment to the learning environment, including revitalizing core classrooms, K-8, with new lighting and furniture. These enhancements have a significant, positive impact on the learning environment. New A/V projectors have been installed across classrooms, Cherokee has a new playground, Sheridan has a new roof and boilers, and air-handlers and electrical panels have been installed at Deer Path Middle School. Lifts and ramps have been upgraded to increase accessibility. The District is looking at a redesign of the science labs in grades 5-8. Administrators worked on a draft of Key Performance Indicators (KTI) that will be presented to the Board in September, on growing every student holistically, not just based on a single day’s testing. North Suburban Special Education District (NSSED )
Suzanne Sands reported that Jim Fitton the previous CSBO and the Business Coordinator for the department resigned over the summer. Joining the business office for the 2018-2019 school year will be Yasmine Dada and Asif Dada, both highly experienced CSBOs who will be jointly job sharing the responsibilities of the CSBO position, while also working to make sure the responsibilities of the coordinator position are completed.  Suzanne spoke at NSSED’s Opening Day Professional Development for all staff.   Over the summer, the Illinois State Board of Education announced that procedural changes would be made to how IDEA flow-through and preschool grant funds are allocated and distributed. This is still a work in progress at the state level as the logistics are somewhat complex.   View written report View video
