Beth Clemmensen reported that the committee received an update on the STEM work in the district. The elementary schools have created STEM opportunities in three key areas: exploration and challenges, curricular-based projects, and coding activities. At DPM, all grades have Smart Labs to support STEM. The committee also discussed the Science Standards across grades K-8. The three core areas that the standards address are the Life, Physical, and Earth sciences. The district team is incorporating more inquiry-based learning into the lessons, and working to ensure strong articulation as students transition from elementary to high school. Beth thanked retiring committee members Tara Eggers, and Carolyn Moore for their invaluable insight during their tenure on the committee.
