June 2017
Dear District 67 Community Member,

To keep you informed, we will be sending you the District 67 Board Report on a monthly basis.  Please note: These are not the official minutes of the Board of Education. Minutes once approved, all board agendas, packets, and videos  can be found here
Board President's Report
Mike Borkowski reported that he recently met with the new Mayor of Lake Forest, Rob Lansing, Superintendent Mike Simeck, LFHS Board of Education President Reese Marcusson, and Lake Forest City Manager Bob Kiely. They discussed the financial crisis that the state of Illinois continues to face and the potential impact on each of the organizations.  Primary concerns for D67 are the current proposals that include a local real estate tax freeze and potential pension cost shift.  Both of these items would have negative impacts on the D67 budget.  From a planning perspective, the district has already taken some of this impact into account by making conservative assumptions in five-year financial projections.  The group also identified the need for communication to the Lake Forest residents, highlighting how the decisions made in Springfield will directly affect homeowners in Lake Forest. A joint communication on this topic is being planned for the fall.  View video for complete report
Superintendent's Report
Mike Simeck noted that the district, working in conjunction with LEAD, is planning on bringing the author of How to Raise an Adult, Julie Lythcott-Haims, to the community on December 4. Final details should be announced shortly. Mike also noted good progress on district-wide construction projects.  View video for complete report

Joint Share Services Committee (JSSC)
Mike Borkowski reported that the committee met in closed session to review administrative compensation.
North Suburban Special Education District (NSSED)
Suzanne Sands reported that the Northfield Township School Districts addressed the Leadership Council to present its perspective on the NSSED Cooperative’s work. The Council is continuing its learning in preparation for the strategic planning process. Suzanne commented that the Council also heard a NSSED parent mentor’s perspective about change and transition for students after they reach the age of 21. Additionally, the Leadership Council approved the FY18 Budget, and was provided with a facilities update. She noted that District 67 is taking full advantage of the professional development opportunities provided by NSSED.    View written report
