Dear District 67 Community Member,
To keep you informed, we will be sending you the District 67 Board Report on a monthly basis. Please note: These are not the official minutes of the Board of Education. Minutes once approved, all board agendas, packets, and videos can be found here.
President’s Report
Board President Mike Borkowski stated that at this time there is no joy in the School District 67 community and certainly no joy at Deer Path Middle School. He commented that there is no joy among the administration, nor among the elected Board members, and our collective family is sad and grieving. He noted that in this meeting the Board will act upon the resignation of our long-time staff member, our principal, our leader, and our friend, Tom Cardamone. Superintendent’s Report
Mike Simeck commented that many of our students, staff, administrators, parents, and community members are grieving the absence of Mr. Cardamone. He noted that Mr. Cardamone was someone who genuinely cared about everyone. That has been evidenced in the school and community's reaction to his absence. He thanked the staff for continuing to demonstrate professionalism as our students arrive at school each day and the parents who have kept their focus on the students and staff, and provided continuity during this time. Public Participation
Numerous parents and staff members addressed the Board regarding Mr. Cardamone’s resignation. View video

Board Education Committee
Suzanne Sands reported that the Committee discussed the current draft of its Charter, changes in the District’s assessment schedule, the personalized student profile, math and English language arts curriculum updates. The Committee also reviewed the current draft of this year’s strategic plan.  View written report View video

Board Finance and Operations Committee
Rob Lemke reported that the Committee reviewed the food service contract, the upcoming science lab bids that will be considered in November, the 5-year plan and projections, and the fund balance policy that will be reviewed by the Board in an upcoming workshop. View video for complete report 

Compensation Committee
Jeff Folker reported that the District 67 Compensation Committee met with the District 115 Compensation Committee to discuss a proposed project work plan, and a pilot data gathering process. View written report View video

North Suburban Special Education District (NSSED)
Suzanne Sands noted that the Council reviewed a new financial model, and all 18 stakeholders’ districts were involved in the process.  View written report View video

Legislative Liaison
Alice LeVert reported that numerous new Illinois Association of School Board (IASB) resolutions will be considered by the Board at this meeting. View written report

Spirit of 67 Foundation
Richard Chun reported that the Spirit of 67 Fall Event "Stand Up for Spirit Event" was a success with a sold-out standing-room only audience. The numbers are not available at this time, but the Spirit of 67 wanted to thank all who attended and participated in the event. View written report  View video
