The District 86 Culture and Equity Leadership Team (CELT) is a superintendent's committee that is composed of students, staff, parents/guardians and board members. It was formed in 2020 to actualize and celebrate the core values of equity and diversity that are a driving force for the district's strategic plan.

During the past two years, CELT has developed the district’s equity statement, which is helping to ensure that all students have what they need to meet their learning and well-being requirements. The group has also played a pivotal role in making sure that an equity lens is applied to the work that is being done to guide our students down the path toward their ideal future.

While CELT will continue to operate as a superintendent’s committee during the 2022-23 school year, its composition is being changed to further amplify and empower the voices of our students. This is similar to the shift we made this year to increase the number of parents/guardians who serve our Parent-Teacher Advisory Committee.

Below is a breakdown of the new composition for CELT:

  • 20 District 86 students
  • Six District 86 staff/board representatives (two principals, two members of the Building Equity Leadership Teams, the director of instructional equity and a board member)
  • Two current District 86 parents/guardians
  • Two future District 86 parents/guardians

If you are the parent/guardian of a current or future District 86 student (grades six through 12) who would like to be considered for membership on CELT for the 2022-23 school year, please fill out the form found at https://bit.ly/3TlyuvG by Nov. 15 at 4 p.m. Please note that applicants must be available to attend all the meetings we have planned for the year.
