Dear friends,
Wishing everyone a Happy Easter and a wonderful week ahead!
In this issue, we'll keep our opening remarks brief. We're pleased to report significant reductions in violent crime rates across New Orleans, thanks to the collaborative efforts of law enforcement at local, state, and federal levels, as well as social and medical services providers.
Let's also strive to maintain the cleanliness of our city. Please report any instances of illegal dumping at nola311.org. With 72,000 catch basins citywide, your assistance in keeping them clear of debris is greatly valued.
Here are some key updates:
- The Department of Public Works has removed 509,920 pounds of debris from 503 catch basins as of last week.
- There are 54,000 lights in the city, and in 2023, DPW repaired 5,691 outages, reset 879 leaning poles, installed 170 new poles, and retrieved 300 knocked-down poles.
- As of last week, DPW has repaired 698 outages, reset 108 leaning poles, installed 29 new poles, and retrieved 16 knocked-down poles. Additionally, there are 23 sites with major repairs in progress, affecting 115 lights.
- The city maintains approximately 4,300 interstate lights, with the interstate lighting system currently operating at 83%.
And a friendly reminder: If you'd like to watch the upcoming April 4 City Council meeting, please visit here.

WHAT'S GOING ON IN DISTRICT D | |
NEW CONSTRUCTION IN DISTRICT D
It's encouraging to witness new home construction in different Upper Ninth Ward communities. As we strive for decreased criminal activity (aiming for zero crime), there's a heightened focus on addressing blight through demolitions and other initiatives by the Department of Code Enforcement. Prioritizing quality-of-life issues is paramount, making the area more inviting for new families. District D warmly embraces this investment.

DEMOLITIONS IN DISTRICT D
The blight of these two properties on Clouet Street in the Ninth Ward community should never have been allowed to persist. Fortunately, they have now been demolished, thanks to the efforts of the District D office and the Department of Code Enforcement.
| |
PUBLIC SPACES CLEANUP
Kudos to the Office of Homeless Services and Strategies, Unity of Greater New Orleans, the Department of Health, and the New Orleans Police Department for their collaborative efforts in engaging with individuals unlawfully occupying public spaces. These dialogues facilitate relocations and cleanup operations, mitigating the risks associated with living on public streets.

STREET REPAIR & INFRASTRUCTURE ENHANCEMENTS
It's not just about laying down asphalt; some thorough street repair projects are underway. Strengthening street infrastructure is a long-term endeavor, with over 150 blocks of street construction in Council District D alone. We appreciate the patience of residents and drivers alike as these improvements take shape.

On Sunday, the East Bank Levee Police Department will have extra law enforcement patrols along the entire stretch of Lakeshore Drive to perform crowd and traffic control, protect lives and property, and enforce the law.
Officers will make every effort to keep access to the Lakefront open. However, if extreme traffic congestion arises on Lakeshore Drive, they may have to temporarily limit access at the intersections of Canal Boulevard at Allen Toussaint Boulevard, Marconi Drive at Allen Toussaint Boulevard, and St. Bernard Avenue at Allen Toussaint Boulevard.

OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR
Governor Landry, along with State Representatives, Senators, and Department heads, play crucial roles in New Orleans' outcomes, and their involvement is appreciated. It's essential to communicate your interests and concerns to them.
The State of Louisiana owns key assets such as bridges, the Superdome, and parts of highways and streets. State entities manage various infrastructures like Lakeshore Drive and Lakefront Airport. State law governs institutions like the Sewerage and Water Board and universities such as Delgado Community College and the University of New Orleans.
Include Governor Landry and other state officials in your communications regarding developments and express support or concerns. You can email Governor Landry's office here and find contact information for State Representatives here.
