The Houston Parks and Recreation Department’s (H.P.A.R.D.) 37 outdoor swimming pools are open during the summer months (June – Aug). All pools are FREE and open to all ages; however, children under 8 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Houston’s swimming pools are open Tuesday through Sunday, 1:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. for recreation and relief from the summer heat!
City of Houston Poet Laureate Dr. Robin Davidson is creating a collection of Houstonians’ most loved poems. A selection of the submitted poems will be included in a printed anthology and a few will be chosen for feature videos of Houstonians reading their favorite poems.

Poems are welcome in any language and participants are asked to provide an English translation, if possible, when submitting their poem.

With hurricane season well underway, the City of Houston Office of Emergency Management (OEM) will host the annual Houston Healthcare Hurricane & Emergency Preparedness Summit on Wednesday, June 22nd, 2016 from 9:00am - 3:00pm at the George R. Brown Convention Center.

The focus of this event is to equip healthcare providers with the tools needed to develop effective and comprehensive emergency management plans.
